Hehehe, I love it! The one about running out of numbers was a good one, too.

Who is this Maya person and why should I give a eff about her calender?

Had meeting with skewl admin this morning. I am very happy to report that my fears regarding over reaching bureaucracy were unfounded. The administrator stated that he was “looking into” the situation to determine if it was a conflict that had started at school and that once it was determined that it had not, that the school had no further interest in the matter. I found no fault with his reasoning.

We live in a relatively unique town in comparison to the rest of the US. Our town is the quintessential “small farm town.” Our population is approx 1200, (on a real good day) we have zero serious crime, it is fairly homogeneous, and the politics leans conservative with those that don’t, being actual old school democrats and not socialist a-holes. We chose to live here because its still a “Mom & Dad & Apple pie place” or God, Family, Country if you will. A kid can be a kid here, and it is not uncommon for the community to police themselves to a certain degree. It is fairly idyllic. Unfortunately, it is a island in the Peoples Republic of Illinois, but it is a island that hasn’t (as of yet) been infected with the socialist outlook of the state. As such, it is my position that I will fight any incursion by the “state” to screw up my little piece of American Heaven, and I am probably overly sensitive to things that even hint of being intrusive.

We are getting our first snow of the season today. No more than four inches, and of course the first snow is always the prettiest. I like to go on the porch late at night and listen to the silence after a good snow. It seems quiet, and clean. The stillness brings me a certain level of comfort…..

God Save the United States of America.

Well, I hope the 40mph winds we are having will die out before getting to you, Troy. That would make that snowstorm a real mess.

Glad to hear about the school district’s decision. Makes perfect sense.

So yesterday, DD#1 calls me up to ask why I’m not willing to help DD#2 out. Turns out, they talk to each other on the phone quite a bit, and DD#2 was telling DD#1 what a bitch I was being for not sending her SS card to her.

After going all “Paul Harvey” on her (“And now, for the REST of the story…..”), DD#1 is now mad at DD#2 for not being more responsible. She apparently told DD#2 when they were talking the first time that she needed to get a portable security box to carry her important documents in – “That way, Mom will feel better about sending your SS card, Birth Certificate, Passport, Shot Records, etc. to you, ‘cuz she knows that you won’t lose them”.

DD#1 asked her if she had applied for a new SS card.

“Well, you can only get 10 replacement cards in your lifetime!”

    “So?”

Dead silence on the other end.

“What are you doing right now?”

    “Playing video games.”

And everyone in the family wonders why I’m not busting my ass trying to help the girl out. ๐Ÿ™„

I’m just waiting for the phone call that tells me that it’s MY fault that she isn’t registered for classes at the Community College (“You wouldn’t pay for a shot!”) AND that she doesn’t have a job (“You wouldn’t send me my Social Security card!”).

    ‘Cuz I know that’s coming next….. ๐Ÿ˜

  10. Teresa in Fort Worth, TX January 12, 2012 at 1:23 pm #

Thanks for listening to me, guys, ‘cuz I can’t put this kind of stuff on my own blog. This is my own private place to bitch without worrying about upsetting delicate sensibilities…..

  11. Jay in Ames January 12, 2012 at 1:38 pm #

Don’t worry, TiFW, your family won’t hear about this, cuz we aren’t listening either.

    *runs

  12. TerribleTroy January 12, 2012 at 1:50 pm #

Stick to your guns TiFW. Sounds like DD#1 gets it. Conversely it sounds like DD#2 needs to put on her “big girl panties” and take some responsibility for her life. I’m sure that DD#2 has more good qualities than bad, but it appears that right now she just isn’t thinking correctly. I recommend a brutal (adn when I say brutal I mean BRUTAL) “come to jesus” conversation from the parent that DD#2 most seeks approval from.

Then again, some people can only learn certain lessons the “hard way.”

  13. LC Aggie Sith January 12, 2012 at 1:57 pm #

No worries Teresa. Feel free to vent.

    *dials DD#1’s phone*

Troy, I’ll be skyping with Hubby in a while, and I will ask him to tell me what you can do for your abscess.

  15. Teresa in Fort Worth, TX January 12, 2012 at 2:13 pm #

Troy, DD#1 is 5 years older than DD#2, and doesn’t remember that she was the same way at that age.

DD#1 had to grow up a LOT faster, though, because she went to college 1500 miles from home, so she had to do for herself, ‘cuz Mommy wasn’t right there. (The first time she called home because she wasn’t feeling well, my response was, “And what do you want me to do about it? I’m half a country away – it’s not like I can drop everything and drive up there to bring you Chicken Noodle Soup and some aspirin. By the time I get there, you’ll be all better….”)

DD#2 is only 2 1/2 hours from home, so “Mom” is a little more convenient – which is good in some ways, but bad in others…..

  16. Jay in Ames January 12, 2012 at 2:28 pm #

DD#1 is 5 years older than DD#2, and doesnโ€™t remember that she was the same way at that age.

When I was in my 20’s (yeah, yeah, let the dust jokes fly!), I sent my dad a card for his birthday.

Front cover: When I was 18, Dad, you didn’t know ANYTHING!

Inside: I’d like to congratulate you on everything you’ve learned in the last 7 years.

He got the biggest kick out of that card.

Doesn’t every kid go through a phase like this?

    Justified and Archer, next week.

    TV has begun again.

    TV has begun again.

    AMEN!!!

  19. MCPO Airdale January 12, 2012 at 3:20 pm #

I do not find Fiona from ‘Burn Notice’ attractive.

    YMMV

  20. TerribleTroy January 12, 2012 at 3:57 pm #

I’m definitely looking forward to the return of Justified. Never watched Archer. Walking Dead is coming back also. I find it entertaining (not to be confused with plausible). Im waiting to hear about the next Top Shot, but I record those and fast forward through the manufactured drama bullshit. Tried to watch Face Off last night (a show about special effects make up artist competition) but quickly determined that I would have to treat it like Top Shot. If there is anything I dislike more than manufactured drama, it would have to be manufactured drama with a bunch of artsy fartsy queens. The show that entertains me the most these days…Big Bang Theory. The lead female has nice……BOOBIES!

(Did you really think I could let a poat go by without BOOBIES? A day without BOOBIES is like a day without Sunshine)

  21. Jay in Ames January 12, 2012 at 4:06 pm #

Troy, watch Archer. Trust me on this. Not kid friendly, but it’s hilarious!

  22. Teresa in Fort Worth, TX January 12, 2012 at 4:14 pm #

Big Bang Theory is the best!

We would have watched it anyway, ‘cuz we “know” all of those people in real life; who knew that a show about 4 nerdy scientists would be such a hit with the country?

  23. LC Aggie Sith January 12, 2012 at 4:24 pm #

    Troy, Archer is a MUST!!!

  24. Jay in Ames January 12, 2012 at 4:30 pm #

Big Bang Theory is very funny, too.

Missed this – it may have popped up on the big blogs already; “You Cannot Reform a Totalitarian” by Michael Ledeen:

    It’s quite good……

  26. MCPO Airdale January 12, 2012 at 4:43 pm #

    Troy – Watch Archer, dammit!

  27. TerribleTroy January 12, 2012 at 4:43 pm #

Ok based upon the recommendations of the much respected, highly astute and culturally refined poaters here I will expand my horizons and partake of this Archer. So it is written, so shall it be done.

Well, you do resemble a young Yul Brynner ๐Ÿ˜€

  30. terribletroy January 12, 2012 at 6:05 pm #

Well, I will take that as a compliment (thank you kindly) as Yul was definitely kewl. Although I have been told I resemble Bruce Willis or (when I wear my straw cowboy hat) Kenny Chesney more times than I can count. But that just makes your compliment mo bettah cause its original and old school.

You rock Ags. Please give my best to your hubby. I finally broke down and stabbed that abscess with a sharp object. After much rinsing with listerine things seem to be settling down. Yes I know that’s “teh nasty.”

  31. Teresa in Fort Worth, TX January 12, 2012 at 6:27 pm #

You probably won’t want to put it on an abscessed tooth, Troy, but you might still be able to find powdered sulfur in pharmacies (I found some at the local Fiesta store in what I call the “Spanish” aisle).

People (not you guys, obviously!) forget that before the miracle discovery of bread mold, there was the miracle discovery of sulfur powder….

Just mix a teensy bit with some petroleum jelly, and you’re in business (SYWM).

  32. LC Aggie Sith January 12, 2012 at 8:34 pm #

Oh, that’s true. Troy is a dead ringer for Bruce WIllis, Teresa. I’ve been THISCLOSE to him, and will vouch for it ๐Ÿ˜€

Lancing it was probably the step you had to take, Troy. Hubby is looking into it and will tell me when he wakes tonight. I’ll leave it here late, or early in the AM.

    What’s up, bitches?

  35. LC Aggie Sith January 13, 2012 at 8:36 am #

Oh sure…the ONE NIGHT I turn in early, and SD shows up.
