Happy Hanukkah

22 Dec

The nice thing about an eight-day celebration is that if you miss the first couple of days, you still have time to join in.

This is a true story, I watched it happen.  There was a Nashville TV show called “Crook and Chase”.  Their guest for the cooking segment of the show one day was making latkes for Hanukkah.  The female host said, and I shit you not, “These would be really good with pork chops.”  The guest looked at her with this amazing look of disbelief on her face, like “you didn’t just say what I thought you said.”  Heh.

Y’all have a good day.

Newt got mic-checked in Iowa yesterday. Afterward, Newt met with the mic-checker, who asked why “since you regard FDR as such a great President, then how come you don’t advocate using his methods to get out of our current depression, like FDR got out of the Great Depression”

Newt said “it wasn’t the policies that got us out of the Great Depression, it was World War II”. Cluebat struck home with that one.

The comments are interesting. Evidently money just grows on trees.

1933-1937 growth, 62%, nice (from 56 billion to 91 billion)

1979-1984 growth, 53%, 9% less, but look at the number. 2,562 billion (2.5 trillion) to 3,930 billion (3.9 trillion).

    Difference from 1933 to 1937? 35 billion. 1979 to 1984 is 1.4 TRILLION dollars. (1400-35/35)*100 = 3900%. yes, it’s a much bigger number.

That sounds kinda good. Never tried it, but I might have to fix that.

Holiday potluck at work today. Then the Xmas turkey giveaway. Life is good.

  10. LC Aggie Sith December 22, 2011 at 10:42 am #

What did you bring for the potluck?

  11. Jay in Ames December 22, 2011 at 11:15 am #

    2 loaves of homemade bread.

Since I had it, and I didn’t want to make more, yet.

    Om, nom, nom….

I’m making the breads on Saturday. Most of our neighbors are staying here for Christmas, so that will be a nice surprise for them.

  13. Jay in Ames December 22, 2011 at 11:26 am #

Depends on when Christmas dinner is. I’ll make more on that day. I’m feeding the sourdough starting tonight, though.

I’m thinking sourdough buttermilk cinnamon rolls, too.

My secretary got me a bottle of wine.

Depending on how the secretarial reviews go today, we might be opening it later.

And I say this with total love for the jews I know…how can you be God’s chosen people when you can’t eat bacon?

  20. LC Aggie Sith December 22, 2011 at 2:18 pm #

    It’s a test, BisW.

    I still feel like shit.

  21. Blackiswhite, Imperial Consigliere December 22, 2011 at 3:30 pm #

Not for me. I can’t drink it, although the stupidity this time of year makes the thought of a coma for Christmas momentarily attractive.

Arrrgggghhh! Gotz meez a blak iPatch!

  23. Blackiswhite, Imperial Consigliere December 22, 2011 at 4:02 pm #

  24. Blackiswhite, Imperial Consigliere December 22, 2011 at 4:03 pm #

If I knew you were getting one, I’d have sent you mine from my eye surgeries a few years ago.

It only has a few holes in it from the fork…

  25. LC Aggie Sith December 22, 2011 at 4:51 pm #

I meant the bacon thing is a test for the Jews, Bisw. I really don’t know. I’m typing in a haze here.

SD, you wearing a smoking jacket with the iPatch? Maybe drinking a martini while propping a hand on the mantel?

    Ask BisW….

  26. LC Aggie Sith December 22, 2011 at 4:52 pm #

Give the wine to a nice neighbor, BisW.
