A Simple solution to all of life’s problems

22 Jul

First off, a big thank you to ya’ll for allowing this ol’ reprobate access to the liquor locker … err, the scroll and foolscap cabinet.  I promise to leave all the toys exactly as I found them, and have all midgets dry cleaned (for your protection) after I finished with them.

That having been said, owing to the current hi-jinx of those crazy mixed up “religion of peace” kids,  and the mad cap shenanigans of all those fun loving, living on the edge, guys and gals, out DC way.  I think I have stumbled upon a solution to both these concerns.

There have been others who have posted same, which only goes to show either weak minds think alike, or maybe, just maybe we’re on to something here.

Bringing this over from the last poat:

    BTW, “Captain America” ROCKS!!!!!!!!

We ordered tixx in advance, got there 40 mins early, and HAD TO WAIT IN A LONG LINE.

We were right behind this cute little old couple – the man had read CA comic books as a little kid (pre-WWII), and it’s always been his favorite, so when his grandsons saw that it was coming out, they HAD to take him to opening night. Isn’t that sweet?

  4. GuyS July 22, 2011 at 11:52 pm #

Thank you Roamy! Hopefully my perversions will fit right in here!

  5. GuyS July 22, 2011 at 11:55 pm #

TiFW, I have heard good things about the Capt America flick too. (as opposed to that POS they did on Green Lantern) Would have loved to have started a conversation with the older couple you mentioned.

    Dear God:
    .

    .
They estimated that around 700 people were at that camp….

  7. Teresa in Fort Worth, TX July 23, 2011 at 12:03 am #

Oh, we talked with them while we were waiting, Guy. Their grandkids weren’t there yet, so they were telling us the story. And you could tell that he was excited to see the movie, and his wife was excited that he was excited.

This is Texas – we chat with EVERYBODY!

The folks in line behind us were talking with us, too –

  8. GuyS July 23, 2011 at 12:05 am #

In another time and place, this would have been considered an overt act of war, and steps would have been taken accordingly. Hell WWI was started with a much smaller act of violence (granted, there were other factors in play, but still…). Any bets on whether or not someone is going to bail out Europe this time? Cause unless there is a major sea change on our side of the pond, it isn’t going to be us.

  9. GuyS July 23, 2011 at 12:06 am #

TiFW, I remember chatting with folks, while living in Texas, at the drop of a hat (or any other garment for that matter). Good people out there!

  10. GuyS July 23, 2011 at 12:08 am #

And the Admiral just told me it’s “lights out”! Time for this squid to hit the rack and call it a night.

Good morning all! We have some thunderbumpers floating through the area! Knocked power out for a bit last night (or early in the AM, while sleeping). Still humid as all get out, but considerably cooler.

Sad news…a blogger friend at the Rott has passed away. She was known as Anniee451, and was my age 😦

  23. roamingfirehydrant July 23, 2011 at 10:56 am #

    Sorry to hear that, Aggie.

  24. Dick July 23, 2011 at 11:52 am #

Happy Anniversary, to you, Roamy and the hubster. You’ve done good.

  25. Teresa in Fort Worth, TX July 23, 2011 at 12:09 pm #

How awful, Aggie – any idea how she died, or was it totally unexpected?

I got news last week that one of our DS moms had passed away, but she had been battling Lou Gehrig’s disease for the past few years, so in a way, it was a comfort knowing that she was no longer trapped in a “frozen” body.

When it’s sudden and it’s someone who is relatively young (well, “young” in this day and age), it’s much harder to come to grips with…..

  26. Blackiswhite, Imperial Consigliere July 23, 2011 at 12:27 pm #

You did tell him that every other Wednesday is his turn in the barrel, right?

You do know that Ponzi schemes don’t work if you tell the marks the whole story upfront, right?

Better to let them figure it out for themselves.

    So pipe down, BiW…..

  30. Teresa in Fort Worth, TX July 23, 2011 at 12:34 pm #

Oh, and BiW – I HOPE you are planning to take the progeny to see Captain America?

    DO IT.

They’ll love it, and so will you….

  31. Dick July 23, 2011 at 12:37 pm #

Teresa, on WBAP this morning the guy said Captain America started off as something really special, then kinda just slipped into the typical action flick. He was disappointed.

    Any truth in his statement?

  35. Blackiswhite, Imperial Consigliere July 23, 2011 at 12:43 pm #

Jake doesn’t like going to the movies…too many strangers + sensory overload = anxious little boy with flapping hands who cannot sit still.

  36. Dick July 23, 2011 at 12:53 pm #

I’ll have Kel teach Jake how to borrow new movies off the net.

  38. Jay in Ames July 23, 2011 at 1:17 pm #

Going to see Captain America in a bit, Dick. Clintbird loved it too.

We just had our 16th the 1st of July.

  39. Dick July 23, 2011 at 1:23 pm #

Our 4th will be in December. Enjoy the movie, Jay, and give us a good rundown on it if ya would.

  40. Teresa in Fort Worth, TX July 23, 2011 at 1:28 pm #

I’d forgotten about that, BiW – Jake probably won’t like it, as it would probably be too much for his senses to handle.

Dick, I guess you could say that about the movie, but I wasn’t disappointed at all. It’s ENTERTAINMENT, not high art. It’s not “perfect”, but it is reminiscent of those old-time Hollywood classics.

Let’s just say this movie is gonna rake in the dough…..

  48. LC Aggie Sith July 23, 2011 at 1:59 pm #

Teresa, we haven’t been told as to the circumstances of Anniee’s death. Some have speculated, but she was rather a private person, so no telling.

    Amy Winehouse dead? Wow…

And Simon Cowell on the blog??? Double wow! 😉

  49. Dick July 23, 2011 at 2:01 pm #

  52. clintbird July 23, 2011 at 2:58 pm #

Dick, many if not most “critics” are simply limp-wristed assclowns whose idea of a “good/great” movie is Meryl Streep strap-on porking Woody Allen.

  53. LC Aggie Sith July 23, 2011 at 3:04 pm #

And with that lovely thought, I’m off to decorate for the party!

Update tomorrow, if I survive 🙂

    WHAT PARTY??????

    I don’t remember getting an invitation –

  55. Dick July 23, 2011 at 3:22 pm #

Clint, the guy wasn’t a movie critic. Just one of the morning people on the radio.
WBAP is a right leaning talk station only.

  60. Teresa in Fort Worth, TX July 23, 2011 at 5:19 pm #

I like it a lot – I don’t think that’s what Boehner is going to be negotiating for today. CCB is off the table, and Congress is going to have to start all over again from scratch.

And they’re supposed to be done with that by 4:00 tomorrow.

Color me skeptical that the Republicans will be left with a good deal.

  61. Car in July 23, 2011 at 5:25 pm #

That article you linked said he was going after something modeled after CCB.

  62. Teresa in Fort Worth, TX July 23, 2011 at 6:00 pm #

I’m willing to wait and see what happens, but the fact that they “might” announce something before the House gets to “see” it is fishy. And you know that this is being done because Obama manufactured another crisis and manipulated everyone into a frenzy, saying that something has to be done RIGHT NOW.

And there is NO legislation that is done well when it is rushed.

  63. Dick July 23, 2011 at 6:28 pm #

Teresa, we can read the legislation after it’s been made law.

Stop being so silly. Our government cares only about us and they know best.

  64. Dick July 23, 2011 at 6:28 pm #

    Obama’s so dreamy!

  65. Dick July 23, 2011 at 7:04 pm #

  66. GuyS July 23, 2011 at 7:30 pm #

Back from work, and after feasting on Debs slow cooked pork an sauerkraut. Add to that the Cubs have now won 2 in a row (admittedly against a team worse than they are….but still) and Amy Whitehouse decided to assume room temperature. All in all, a good day so far.

Dick, happy to hear your genetic hostage got on the blower and gave you a shout. Now if mine would do the same thing…

  67. GuyS July 23, 2011 at 7:32 pm #

    Sheesh, Winehouse….Whitehouse….she’s dead JIm!!!

  68. Dick July 23, 2011 at 7:38 pm #

Guy, they’ll make him a PO3 if he graduates first in his class (he’s led the entire way so far with three weeks left), but they said he has to sign a four year extension in order to claim the rank.
Any truth in this? Not that it matters cause he’s already decided it’s his home for the next 30.

  69. GuyS July 23, 2011 at 7:48 pm #

To the best of my knowledge, there are two ways to get advanced like that. One is to accept additional training in your rate (job), the other is to extend your length of service (by extending or re-enlisting) often times you need to do both.

Short answer, yes it is indeed posible. Especially if he is near or at the top of his class. Master Chief may have more updated info than I do.

And now it is off to wall mart to get some pills.

  70. Jay in Ames July 23, 2011 at 7:49 pm #

Captain America is as advertised: really good! Nice message, isn’t insulting to our troops, and isn’t insulting to a pro-American viewpoint. I’m ranking it behind XMen First Class, and tied with Thor, as far as the comic book movies for this year.

  71. Dick July 23, 2011 at 8:01 pm #

    Guy, thanks for the info.

James, give us a run down, without spoilers if ya can.

  73. Jay in Ames July 23, 2011 at 8:40 pm #

Skinny 4F kid Steve Rogers really wants to serve his country in WW2. He’s got a kind heart, and is courageous beyond his physical capabilities. He has tried multiple times to volunteer, but is turned down every time. A German scientist overhears him talking to a friend, and rigs it so he can be enlisted in a special unit, to try a new formula to produce the advanced soldier. He was also compelled to try this in Germany too, which produced the adversary in the movie. He gives the serum to Rogers, transforming him to the big stud.

Tommy Lee Jones is the commander of the special unit, turning in a fine performance. Hayley Atwell plays the required love interest, but turns in a nice performance.

Tommy Lee turns down Rogers as a soldier, requiring him to do service for the Senator who is the sponsor of the top secret program that produced Rogers. Here he gets his name, and a situation introduces him into the war, since he has special capabilities that are needed in a certain place.

The rest is situational, setting up the conflict with the Red Skull, played by Hugo Weaving (Mr Smith from The Matrix). This is the other product of the scientist, working for the Nazis. Also a well done ending, however unfulfilling, and the trailer for The Avengers follows the credits, so stay till the very end.

  74. Dick July 23, 2011 at 9:01 pm #

Sounds good. We’ll go next weekend.

  75. GuyS July 23, 2011 at 9:09 pm #

It does sound good. May take this one in after the 3rd of August. Haven’t been to the movies since the last Bond flick.

And never made it to wall mart . They are open 24/7 but the pharmacy is not. Went shopping in town instead.

  76. Teresa in Fort Worth, TX July 23, 2011 at 9:11 pm #

Shoot – didn’t know that about staying to the end of the credits….:-(

  77. Dick July 23, 2011 at 9:14 pm #

Teresa. always ask the movie theater help if ya need to stay past the credits or not. They’ll tell you.

  78. GuyS July 23, 2011 at 9:16 pm #

I always enjoy the “free” popcorn, left by all the patrons who leave as soon as the movie is over.

  79. Jay in Ames July 23, 2011 at 9:27 pm #

Teresa, almost every comic book movie, especially Marvel, has a blurb at the end.

Did you spot Stan Lee in this one? He’s in every movie that he’s had a hand in writing.

  80. Teresa in Fort Worth, TX July 23, 2011 at 9:53 pm #

Yeah, Stan Lee had a great line in this one. You can tell he has fun doing those cameos!

We had forgotten that about these movies and the preview at the end of the credits. Ah, well – we’ll see the preview soon enough…..

  81. Dick July 23, 2011 at 10:02 pm #

Stan Lee sounds alot like Clive Cussler.
Clive always writes himself into his novels.
