    Well, shit on a shingle…

Just tried to go get some lunch, and the van will not turn over, brand new battery and tank of gas notwithstanding. So, not only do I have to replace the battery in hubby’s car, now I need to replace the starter in mine, most likely.

One hell of a morning turning into one bitch of a day.

For Donny (don’t yell at me, Chief; I’m including the whole video in honor of this auspicious occasion):

  7. dick June 3, 2011 at 3:01 pm #

Aggie, see it can be jumped. Ya might’ve got hold of a bad battery. Cb, tell me about Lou’s pizza.

  8. Jay in Ames June 3, 2011 at 3:14 pm #

It’s the thick crust Chicago style pizza, Dick. Lots of cheese, sausage, pepperoni, and the sauce on top. Pan pizza, with a hint of cornmeal in the crust. Tip top, dick, I highly recommend it. We had it in the downtown restaurant, but they are on the internet: http://www.loumalnatis.com/

The downtown one has a bunch of sports memorabilia inside, if you’re into that stuff.

  9. LC Aggie Sith June 3, 2011 at 3:17 pm #

I’m having my BIL look at it this weekend, Dick. Frankly, I’m ready to get rid of it, but with new cars being manufactured with black boxes this month, I would have to buy one ASAP.

And no Mom Mobile, either 😉

TiFW – You realize, of course, that when Anchors Aweigh plays I have to drag my tired bones outta this chair and stand at attention.

Ran across this – Dick may have posted it many weeks ago. It’s an introduction to the “Navy Boot Camp” facility (I think it was made for worried moms…..)

It’s like Charm School compared to Boot Camp in 1971

  22. Teresa in Fort Worth, TX June 3, 2011 at 4:07 pm #

    I don’t doubt that, Chief!
Here’s another one – slightly longer, but geared more to the recruits:

  23. Teresa in Fort Worth, TX June 3, 2011 at 4:18 pm #

And completely unrelated, except for the fact that it’s from the movie “Anchors Aweigh” (with my first crush, Gene Kelly):

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DP0kQFvj9rs&feature=related

A side-by-side comparison of Gene dancing with Jerry Mouse and Stewie from “The Family Guy” – a little silliness for a Friday afternoon!

So we go to a retirement luncheon today for the guy who originally trained Mr. TiFW when he was a fresh, new college graduate. Lots of folks who started out working together, and who then went on to different areas of the company all received e-mails from the people who planned this lunch, and many of them showed up at the restaurant.

Unfortunately, everybody assumed that someone else had informed the retiree about the lunch…..

So we took pictures, and will no doubt joke with him for years to come about what a shame it was that he missed his really swell retirement party –

  25. LC Aggie Sith June 3, 2011 at 4:40 pm #

    He wasn’t there, Teresa???

    Oh that poor man!!!

  26. MCPO Airdale June 3, 2011 at 4:48 pm #

Unfortunately, everybody assumed that someone else had informed the retiree about the lunch…..

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Classic!

  27. Teresa in Fort Worth, TX June 3, 2011 at 4:51 pm #

Nope – one of the girls who had helped plan the party finally called him up about 30 minutes after everyone was there, and he said he hadn’t heard anything about it!

He’s got a great sense of humor, though, and if you knew this crew – a.k.a. “The Gang That Couldn’t Shoot Straight” – you’d realize it wasn’t out of the realm of possibility….

Unfortunately, he was right in the middle of something when he received the call, so he wasn’t able to get to the restaurant.

It makes a great story, though!

  28. Blackiswhite, Imperial Consigliere June 3, 2011 at 4:57 pm #

    Sounds like something I’d do.

Of course, in my case, spite would likely be suspected.

  29. Teresa in Fort Worth, TX June 3, 2011 at 4:57 pm #

One of the first things that Mr. TiFW worked on when he got to GD (now LM) was the AMRAAM missile, so he and a couple of other guys spent the last few days cobbling together a model AMRAAM for everyone to sign as a retirement gift.

Being the engineer/nerds that they all are, it was crafted with PVC pipe (assembled at one guy’s house) and scrap wood (assembled in Mr. TiFW’s shop at home – he fashioned the nose cone and the flap/rudder thingies).

All I’ve heard the past few days is how “The nose cone isn’t quite right – I need to make some adjustments.” There are detailed scale drawings on my coffee table as we speak…

It turned out great, and everyone signed it, then a couple of people ran it by his house after the luncheon was over. I’m sure a lot of laughs ensued!

  30. LC Aggie Sith June 3, 2011 at 5:00 pm #

in my case, spite would likely be suspected.

    The most unnecessary statement ever.

  31. Teresa in Fort Worth, TX June 3, 2011 at 5:07 pm #

    Here’s the e-mail I sent him:

    Dear Bill,

Just wanted to let you know what a great time we had at your retirement luncheon today – it’s too bad you missed it; you would have had a GREAT time!

Oh, well – I guess after all this time with this crew – a.k.a. “The Gang That Couldn’t Shoot Straight” – you might have known that something like this would happen…..

Hope you enjoy retirement! And I hope you like the missile the group cobbled together for you – it’s made from the finest scrap lumber and spare PVC those guys could find. Nothing but the best for you, dude!

Love to you and Jeannie, and here’s hoping that you have many wonderful years together –

My guess is the media gave them so much of the limelight that they firmly believe they can protest and move mountains, Teresa.

They didn’t move even their shit, so I don’t see how effective they can be this time around.

  44. LC Aggie Sith June 3, 2011 at 7:35 pm #

    Sigh….guess I should get going.

    Pray for me.

And I hope that when PattyAnn reads this, she knows I’ll be thinking of her sitting next to me talking about dildos.

Back from day two of hospital follies (this time Deb was in the ER all night and through a good part of the day). Everyone is fine. Brought chinese food home for dinner.

OSSR Donny, Fair Winds and Following Seas to ya, as you head to the school phase of your enlistment. Don’t know if they still do this or not, but used to be the top 1 or 2 of their respective “A” school class, got first shot at orders to the fleet. And there was always at least one set of primo orders to be had. Might give you a bit of extra incentive as you progress through the first (of hopefully many) career enhancing opportunities.

  47. LC Aggie Sith June 3, 2011 at 7:57 pm #

Ok, time for me to go. This experience will be tomorrow morning’s poat.

Roamy, in short, my sis demands my presence at her Athena party, with is strictly for adults. I am NOT amused.

    I will take pics 😉

It would be too much to hope for that the parent would take a little “discipline” out on the kid too.

  50. GuyS June 3, 2011 at 9:28 pm #

Sadly BisW, I don’t think the parents are going to be doing any real parenting regarding this.

Ya’ll know the drill, back when we were kids (50/60/70s), had we done the same thing, the teacher(s) would have whooped us, the Principal would have whooped us, mom (and perhaps some of the neighbors in route to the house) would have whooped us, and when dad got home, he would have flat kicked our ever loven ass!!

  51. MCPO Airdale June 3, 2011 at 9:53 pm #

If that was my son, you guys would be taking up a collection for my bail. I would have beaten him down like a ten penny nail.

Master Chief, if you lived next door, I would have “tagged teamed” his ass with you!

Master Chief, if you lived next door, I would have “tagged teamed” his ass with you!

And that’s why you always read up a couple of posts.

  54. TattooedIntellectual June 3, 2011 at 11:02 pm #

This is because you left me alone in here. And no I don’t wanna hear about how I don’t stop by on a regular basis or any of that logical nonsense.

  55. Teresa in Fort Worth, TX June 3, 2011 at 11:50 pm #

    From Cathy 10:29 p.m.

While I was chatting and encouraging PattyAnn the great surgeon, Dr. Dennis Gable, came in to check on PattyAnn. He walked up behind me quietly and gave me a BIG HUG and smile. He looked like he had just come from another surgery… and he said this was the first time he’d been by to visit PattyAnn since her surgery.

He seemed happy to see her making progress and spent a good amount of time talking with her about what he had done in the 11 hour surgery, where they are going from here and the work she has in front of her to keep getting better.

Everything the doc said fit in well because I had just been giving her a pep talk, coaching her on how much she is going to have to make getting better her job… that every day she needs to listen to what the doctors, nurses, and others like physical therapists expect her to do and that she need to do her best to get ‘er done even if it is painful or uncomfortable… that this is how she will get better. She said she would do her best. Yea!

One thing that is certain. EVERYONE… surgeons, nurses, medical team, family members, you morons, and PattyAnn herself ALL pretty much agree that her being alive right now is a MIRACLE.

I thank God and all of you for your faithfulness in prayer and thoughts of concern. Don’t stop. We’ve witnessed something pretty awesome already, but there are many more hurdles to come.

    Okay. Who wants a hug?
