A message for PattyAnn

25 May

From all her ‘invisible” friends.

PATTYANN UPDATE!

Just got off the phone with John, PattyAnn’s hubby.
She has been extubated and is enjoying the ability to drink liquids and begin talking.
She will be able to eat whatever she wants from the menu today — so that is GREAT.
John is sooooooooo grateful for all the prayers and has requested that we DON’T STOP praying. So there!
One more thing. PattyAnn does not have her laptop today. John wants us to watch what we say because he knows when PattyAnn gets on, she will be reading all this. No bummer-stuff. She does NOT need it.
The docs are so positive… they feel that NOW she has a real chance of full recovery… that the leg has been a major impediment to her getting completely better.
So. There.– via Cathy. Thanks to Jewstin.

PATTYANN EVENING UPDATE!!

Good news about PattyAnn.
She has been extubated because she insisted.
She is enjoying drinking water and juices and looks forward to eating applesauce, yogurt, etc.
She so appreciates my visits and all the prayers from you morons. I shared Psalm 46 with her today and she LOVED how it fit how she was feeling about stuff… AND I also prayed with her. God has been giving her some miracles. Her complexion looks great… so much better since yesterday when I saw her before the surgery.
And, Her sense of humor is amazing.– via Cathy. Thanks to Jewstin.

Walter Russell Mead had a great column yesterday. I agree with most of it, although the tribute to the originality of Obama’s thoughts and intellectual strategy seems a contrived and strained. He makes some solid points, though.

Everyone who followed the events of the last week knows that the President has lost control of the American-Israeli relationship and that he has no near-term prospects of rescuing the peace process. The Israelis, the Palestinians and the US Congress have all rejected his leadership. Peace processes are generally good things even if they seldom bring peace; one hopes the President can find a way to relaunch American diplomacy on this issue but for now he seems to have reached a dead end — and to have allowd himself to be fatally tagged as too pro-Israel to win the affection of the Europeans and Arabs, and too pro-Palestinian to be trusted either by Israel or by many of the Americans who support it.

My gf was watching some bio of fat-ass Oprah last night. Fat Ass sat there talking about some pregnancy she’d had. Sounded like she was fourteen or so when she conceived. She explained how it was like having a tumor, and how she had, at one time, felt guilty that she had no emotional attachment to the child, except she never called the baby a child. I don’t recall her ever even acknowledging the child as human. Anyway, she went on about how terrible she felt, but not for conceiving the child as a child herself; rather she felt guilty that she had no emotional attachment to her tumor. (I couldn’t take the damn interview long enough to figure out what happened. I suspect she aborted the child, but she may have delivered the kid up for adoption.)

What to say? Really. I felt like telling her, “You shallow, callous, stupid, shallow, promiscuous, shallow fucking psychotic, overstuffed pukebag of flesh. You SHOULD feel guilty. Your guilt is natural, because you’re a fucking abomination in the eyes of nature.” Dammitall, am I glad that sow has retreated to her sty.

When are politicians going to understand that “peace” is not something that can be mandated by a third party?

Ask any mother – she can tell you how well her “You and your sister are going to kiss and make up!” works, vs. letting the kids duke it out until they are both tired of fighting and they work out their own solutions.

Occasionally Mom or Dad has to intervene to remind them of the boundaries the kids set for themselves, or if one of the parties breaks their end of the bargain, but by and large those truces hold MUCH longer than anything a third party comes up with…..

  24. Jay in Ames May 26, 2011 at 10:26 am #

That’s horrible, Jazz. She really compared a baby to a tumor? That right there is how you justify abortion, by lying to yourself.

  25. Teresa in Fort Worth, TX May 26, 2011 at 10:28 am #

If I recall correctly, Oprah’s pregnancy was the result of a brutal incestuous one-sided “relationship” with one of her uncles. The baby girl was born early and died not long afterwards.

I’ve always given her a pass on that one….

  26. Jazz May 26, 2011 at 10:30 am #

The Telegraph takes note: Obama was outclassed at Downing Street yesterday.

The economy is Obama’s Achilles heel in the November 2012 election, and his woeful answers only reinforced the image of a president way out of his depth on economic matters.

    http://tinyurl.com/3qrn2t8

  27. Jay in Ames May 26, 2011 at 10:31 am #

Yeah, I can see that, TiFW. One of the cases that actually falls under the rape/incest clause that all liberals beat us over the head with.

    I’ll buy that.

  28. Teresa in Fort Worth, TX May 26, 2011 at 10:33 am #

Especially since NO ONE in Oprah’s family did anything to prevent the incest from happening in the first place. I seem to remember that uncle started molesting her when she was around 9 years old.

Thank goodness I’ve never experienced anything like that, but I can certainly understand how a young 14-year-old child would not feel any attachment to a pregnancy after suffering that kind of abuse for that long.

I’m not even sure she knew what had caused her to get pregnant. Back then, nobody talked about such things. And I’m willing to bet that NO ONE in her family was willing to believe that her sainted uncle had been the one to instigate the relationship – they probably blamed her for “tempting” him in the first place.

  29. Jazz May 26, 2011 at 10:34 am #

With the incest background, the emotional-attachment issue takes on a different hue. I have enough other reasons to despise her that taking one straw off the camel’s back isn’t going lighten the load enough for the beast to stand.

  30. Teresa in Fort Worth, TX May 26, 2011 at 10:38 am #

And I do recall seeing an interview with Oprah several years ago where you could tell that she felt guilty for feeling “relieved” at the time that the baby had died.

She still felt guilty for thinking that if the baby had lived, she wouldn’t have been able to achieve the things in life that she had. She was shedding some tears about that – and you could tell that they were genuiine.

There’s a lot of guilt in her about that part of her life – I don’t think there’s a day that doesn’t go by that she doesn’t wonder “What if?”

  31. Teresa in Fort Worth, TX May 26, 2011 at 10:41 am #

And I agree, there are other things that I don’t agree with when it comes to Oprah, but she gets some high marks in my book for overcoming that part of her life.

  32. Jazz May 26, 2011 at 10:43 am #

The latest thing to come out of Georgia is far better than Newt Gringrich.

Georgia has become only the second state to offer its citizens interstate competition in the health insurance market. The GOP controlled legislature passed, and GOP Governor Deal signed into law a bill authorizing the sale of health insurance policies approved for sale in other states. The law is aimed at those who do not have employer-provided health insurance and the self-employed.

An important but virtually unnoticed Philadelphia case from 2010 bears striking similarities to the one in Dearborn, including police shutting down religious speech directed toward Muslims and a prosecutor filing charges patently at odds with video evidence. Islamist Watch attended the trial, which offered a unique window into the battle to protect First Amendment rights in an era of hypersensitivity.

I hope you erred on the side of caution when deciding whether to ignore them, TiFW.

Well, it’s funny, Jazz – here’s the routine:

One of the dogs will usually come and nuzzle me. It’s always a different dog, so there isn’t any clue there.

When I get to the door, the dogs will do one of 2 things – either they will go outside, or they will sit down. If they sit down, they only wanted a Milk Bone (the box is right by the back door).

The funny thing is that sometimes the oldest dog will “pimp” for the 2 younger dogs. She can tell that they want to go outside, so she’ll come nudge me, I’ll go open the door, and those 2 will bound outside while the old dog sits down and waits.

After I close the door, she gets a Milk Bone all to herself, then she gets another one when they come inside, ‘cuz going outside to do your business warrants a reward. So it’s a double win for her….

    Yes, they have me trained.

So yeah, she takes full advantage of it.

She even gets a “pass” if a minor skirmish breaks out – it’s never “her” fault; the other 2 get blamed for everything.

    It’s a pretty sweet gig.

And I’m gonna cry my eyes out for days when she finally shuffles off this mortal coil…..

Oh, and the other 2 dogs know that she has seniority.

Sometimes they bound outside before she has a chance to get out the door. Then they come back inside, act properly contrite, and let her go out “first”, and follow along behind her.

And when it comes to the Milk Bone distribution, there is a strict protocol that has to be observed. Lady ALWAYS gets the first treat, and since she is getting on in years (and her joints sometimes hurt), she has the option of getting her treat standing up or sitting down.

The other two HAVE to sit down to get their treats. And there is a hierarchy there, as well – the youngest dog gets her treat last. The middle dog has been trying to get away with the “standing” for her treat as well; she doesn’t understand that Lady gets special treatment because she’s 12 years old (Bandit is only 2).

I guess she thinks that when you’re no longer the youngest dog, that rule applies to you, too…..

    The heart of unemployment numbers:

Consider Professor Edward Lazear’s take on the recent employment data: “[T]he increase in job growth that occurred over the past two years results from a decline in the number of layoffs, not from increased hiring. In February 2009, a month during which the labor market lost more than 700,000 jobs, employers hired four million workers. In March 2011, employers hired four million workers. The number of hires is the same today as it was when we were shedding jobs at record rates. ” Professor Lazear may not be the only observer to publicize this salient fact, but if not, he is damn near close to it.

Hear those footsteps, Holder and Obama? Something spooky is coming up behind you!

The U.S. Supreme Court on Thursday upheld an Arizona law that imposes sanctions against businesses that hire illegal immigrants.

The court, on a 5-3 vote, said federal immigration law does not bar Arizona from suspending or revoking the licenses of businesses that employ unauthorized aliens.

“Because we conclude that the state’s licensing provisions fall squarely within the federal statute’s savings clause and that the Arizona regulation does not otherwise conflict with federal law, we hold that the Arizona law is not preempted,” Chief Justice John Roberts wrote in a 27-page opinion. . . .

Numerous organizations, including the Chamber of Commerce, argued the state’s law was preempted by the federal Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986, which forbids states from imposing sanctions for hiring illegal immigrants. But that law exempts “licensing and similar laws,” and a key issue in the case was whether Arizona’s law fell under that exemption

    http://tinyurl.com/3sgnax6

How does this square with Arizona SB1070?

NLJ: How did you ensure that S.B. 1070 conforms with federal pre-emption doctrine, which is likely to be the major basis for challenging the law?

KK: The provision of the law that many have focused on is the one makes it a misdemeanor for an alien to fail to carry registration documents on his person. They fail to mention that an individual is only guilty if he is in violation of 8 USC sec 1304(a) or 8 USC 1306(e). Those provisions have been around since 1940, making it a crime to fail to register or carry certain documents. The state statue literally refers to those federal statutes. A person can only be guilty under the state statute if he is guilty under the federal statute.

The principle that protects the Arizona law is the legal principle of concurrent enforcement. This has been recognized by several courts, including the 9th Circuit. It holds that a law is not conflict-preempted if the state law prohibits the same behavior that is already prohibited by federal law. Similarly, if a state officer acts in a way to assist the federal government in that action, he concurrently enforces what is already prohibited under federal law.

That principle guides any interpretation of S.B. 1070.

The controlling Supreme Court precedent is 1976’s De Canas v. Bica. In that case, the Supreme Court recognized states may enact legislation to discourage illegal immigration within their jurisdictions. The mere fact that a state law concerns illegal immigration or affects immigration in some way does not render it pre-empted.

    Screw that.

If you are an attorney, you HAVE to have an office, with a door.

It’s fucking retarded. You know why I spend so much time here? I can’t fucking concentrate for shit in this warehouse. Among the visual static (people walking around, etc.), noise from every single corner of the room, and the damn sunlight (we have a ton of windows, and I have very light blue eyes – I frequently wear my sunglasses in the office because it’s too bright for me and hurts my eyes), I frequently have to just throw my hands up as far as accomplishing anything.

I tried to drive this point home to our employer. We’re a software company, and the workforce is composed of nerds. Scriptors, software QA engineers, and software product design are not the realms of the intellectually lazy, and the endeavors demand attention to detail and concentration. I am a lawyer trained in mathematics – I am used to solitary exercises of intellect in quiet rooms whose environment I rule completely: Heat, light, and noise dance to my whims. The President of this corp manages the company straight out of business management texts from the 80s, self-improvement books, and entrepreneurial magazines. There’s not an idea implemented here that isn’t tired or designed to pander to the workers’ need for “empowerment.” It patronizing, and it’s all window dressing. The “empowerment” carries no power; it’s all mental masturbation. And the secrecy among the senior management coupled with the theatrics of secrecy are polar opposites of the “open-ness” the company so vocally trumpets.

    An excellent account:

Although I am not a conspiracy theorist, I am certain that if I wrote about my experience with specifics, the company for which I work would suffer retribution by our government. I do not have the right to put them in jeopardy. And if the legal department of my employer knew I was writing this, they would “lose it.” For these reasons, I feel it necessary to write anonymously and with some imprecision.

This fear of retribution, in and of itself, is a powerful statement about the sad conditions in which we live and do business in the United States.

Not really buying into that, Teresa.
Have you gone to visit yet? I’ll be there about 10am or so tomorrow provided my test results from the free clinic don’t come back before then.

  171. Blackiswhite, Imperial Consigliere May 26, 2011 at 7:53 pm #

    You don’t need test results.

    I can already tell you.

    It’s the herp.

  172. scottw May 26, 2011 at 8:00 pm #

Dick ask her if she has been given a device to do breathing exercises and make sure she is doing them.

The exercises appear to be worthless but they are really important. I ask because I saw today that she had breathing difficulties last time.

Have you gone to visit yet? I’ll be there about 10am or so tomorrow

Not yet – today was a not-so-good day; tomorrow Rebecca gets out of school at noon, so I won’t be there tomorrow either.

I’ll try and make it out sometime in the next week, though, as the other girls will be home now during the day, and Rebecca’s attendant will start coming at 12:00 instead of 4:30 now that it’s summertime.

  174. Dick May 26, 2011 at 8:07 pm #

I’ll mention it to her, but won’t dog her on it.
Last visit I kinda lit her up over the “waiting to long to see a doc” thing.
She gave me “that look”. You know the one.

Oh and tell Laura I said “You’re welcome”. She thanked me for stepping up.

  175. Teresa in Fort Worth, TX May 26, 2011 at 8:07 pm #

    Dick – check your e-mail….

  176. scottw May 26, 2011 at 8:19 pm #

I will dog her if she really is online soon.

Ask her and dog her for me.

If she gets mad tell her Michael put me up to it.

  177. Dick May 26, 2011 at 8:25 pm #

TERESA SENT ME A PIC OF HER FUNBAGS!!!!!!!!!

  178. Dick May 26, 2011 at 8:26 pm #

Scott, maybe so, but I’ll be in the firing line. I’ll do it gently.

  179. MCPO AIrdale May 26, 2011 at 8:27 pm #

    Well! That was exciting!

  180. Dick May 26, 2011 at 8:32 pm #

    You live!

  181. scottw May 26, 2011 at 8:32 pm #

    Understood. Thanks Dick.

  182. clintbird May 26, 2011 at 8:32 pm #

Everything okay after your storm warning MCPO?

  183. Dick May 26, 2011 at 8:38 pm #

Okay, tequila ain’t working on this back. Time for some Tylenol.

  184. clintbird May 26, 2011 at 8:41 pm #

    Cold packs, Dick, cold packs.

  185. Dick May 26, 2011 at 8:44 pm #

CB, I can’t do cold. Call me a pussy. Everybody else does.

  186. clintbird May 26, 2011 at 8:56 pm #

Sorry Dick. Well, iffin’ you could learn to bear it, it’s one of the best ways to lessen inflammation.

  187. Dick May 26, 2011 at 9:07 pm #

So what you’re saying is, when I get an unwanted Boner/Erection/Hard On/Woodie/Pipewrench of Love/Red Headed Texas White Snake of The Promised Land’s Swamp O’Glory… I should immediately jump into an ice cold shower, or sit in a sink full of ice water.

  188. clintbird May 26, 2011 at 9:11 pm #

There’s such a thing as an “unwanted one?”

  189. Dick May 26, 2011 at 9:14 pm #

    Not at my… age.

  190. scottw May 26, 2011 at 9:14 pm #

Tequila will fix it. Double the dose.

  191. Dick May 26, 2011 at 9:17 pm #

    Good idea. Done.

  192. Jewstin May 26, 2011 at 9:30 pm #

    More from Cathy:

    Good news about PattyAnn.
She has been extubated because she insisted.
She is enjoying drinking water and juices and looks forward to eating applesauce, yogurt, etc.
She so appreciates my visits and all the prayers from you morons. I shared Psalm 46 with her today and she LOVED how it fit how she was feeling about stuff… AND I also prayed with her. God has been giving her some miracles. Her complexion looks great… so much better since yesterday when I saw her before the surgery.
And, Her sense of humor is amazing.

  193. LC Aggie Sith May 26, 2011 at 9:34 pm #

No way. My head would be spun in a 180.

    Hm, you’re right.

  194. Dick May 26, 2011 at 9:37 pm #

Good on PA! Hopes she’s ready for a huge dick around 10:30 in the morning!

  195. LC Aggie Sith May 26, 2011 at 9:37 pm #

And I updated the poat, Jewstin. Thanks 🙂

  196. Dick May 26, 2011 at 9:38 pm #

  200. LC Aggie Sith May 26, 2011 at 9:44 pm #

    Smartass 😛

Guess it took me a sec because I’m speshul!!!

  201. Dick May 26, 2011 at 9:45 pm #

Mom always told me that speshul line, too.

  202. MCPO Airdale May 26, 2011 at 9:45 pm #

Not many lights on around town. Guess there are lots of trees down. The local TV says a confirmed tornado on the Carlisle fairgrounds. . . about 1/2 mile from the house.

Houses destroyed on the other side of the river. . .

  203. Dick May 26, 2011 at 9:46 pm #

    Your place okay, Chief?

  204. MCPO Airdale May 26, 2011 at 9:48 pm #

Dick – Yup. Fine here. But it did get the blood pressure up!

  205. LC Aggie Sith May 26, 2011 at 9:50 pm #

Glad to hear y’all are ok, MCPO.

    Are you near Carlisle Barracks?

  206. MCPO Airdale May 26, 2011 at 9:52 pm #

    Aggie – Yes Ma’am.

  207. LC Aggie Sith May 26, 2011 at 9:55 pm #

I was up there in February of 2002. Gorgeous place, and may be a possible PCS in the future.

  208. GuyS May 26, 2011 at 10:00 pm #

Glad you came out unscratched Master Chief. With all the storms across the midwest/southern plains/south/Ohio valley/and points further east, we seem to be doing more duck and covers than back in the 50s and 60’s while we were in grade school.

  209. MCPO Airdale May 26, 2011 at 10:02 pm #

Aggie – Come on up! We’ll have a glass of wine in front of the fire here in the Hobbit Hole.

  210. LC Aggie Sith May 26, 2011 at 10:05 pm #

    Thanks for the invite, MCPO!!!

    Wait…is it BYOB??

  211. Dick May 26, 2011 at 10:07 pm #

  225. Blackiswhite, Imperial Consigliere May 26, 2011 at 10:33 pm #

Third grade is a total bitch.

Tell me about it. But the fourth time was the charm.

It was the second happiest day of my mother’s life.

Yes, No, hum a few bars…

I knew I asked the right crowd.
