Find the butterfly.

Find the pony.

Find the length of blue ribbon.

Find the kitten.

You did find those objects, didn’t you?

Got a letter from Donny in the mail a few minutes ago!

Hey Dad,

Hell Week has come and gone, and it was a busy week.
For starters, I got mail from Mom, Nana & Pappa, my old roommates, and another friend from Denton. Ran for my Personal Fitness Evaluation and passed it just fine. Pretty sure I had the flu last week and my left quad is still a bit strained, but I still passed with flying colors. Then we had Personnel, Weapons, and Zone inspections, and those went well, too.
They finally gave us real guns and told us to shoot a target multiple times. Using the 9mm Beretta, I scored 214 out of 240 which earned me a “Sharpshooter” ribbon. I figured it wasn’t too bad for not having fired a gun is several years. All in all, gun qualification was pretty cool.

We kicked a little ass at our drill assessment, too. We kicked enough ass that we, as a division, may now march around base without our RDC’s/Drill sergeants. And we can sing marching cadences as well. It’s pretty fun shit.

Week 5 this week and we’re staring down the gas chamber this Friday (tomorrow) Fire Fighting will also happen this week, possibly Friday before the gas chamber. I’m not certain, but it’ll all happen soon. They do have to first teach us how to fight fires and I’m expecting a 3-4 hour class at least.

We also took photos wearing our Dress Blues. Any pictures that get ordered are being sent to your place, FYI. I believe we’ll be ordering those pictures this week.

Dad, I hope you, Kelly, and the herd are all doing well.
I miss you guys and really appreciate all of the support you’ve given me.

I love you,

Donny

If you guys knew Donny like I did, you’d realize he totally loves what he’s doing and loves the Navy.

The Blaze: SENATE BLOCKS GOP BID TO SPEED OFFSHORE DRILLING

Five Republicans — Alabama’s Richard Shelby, Louisiana’s David Vitter, Maine’s Olympia Snowe, South Carolina’s Jim DeMint, and Utah’s Mike Lee — voted against the bill. (from Free Republic)

Ok, I get Snowe voting nay, but DeMint and Lee? Something smells wrong. And lo and behold, later in the Free Republic page comes the truth: McConnell put a bunch of crap in to appease the moderate Senate Republicans (Graham mentioned by name), so DeMint and Lee vote against it. Also, Vitter said it would have actually slowed down the process.

They should have gone with the House version, and smoked out some more Republican primary targets.

Ezra Klein brought more stupid yesterday, in spades. Industrial-grade stupid in bulk quantity.

Here’s your out-of-the-box policy idea for the day:

America should implement weighted voting to make voting more objective and fair, and give the young more power, because the consequences of political decisions will affect them the longest. Weighted voting would restore power to twenty and thirty year olds, where it resided before the advent of medical science. With the aid of computers, it would be easy to give everyone a Voting Score, just like we all have a credit score.

    * * *
[W]e already reweight voting in this country. But we do it to give residents from small states more power. Does that really make more sense than reweighting by age, education, race, income or some other demographic characteristic?

I’m fucking hyperfuckingventifuckinglating at this. Jiminy Assfucking Christmas, that motherfucker has an Ivy League education? What fucking day of American history did he attend EVER?

  26. LC Aggie Sith May 19, 2011 at 10:03 am #

That and the cancellation of his show, J’Ames.

Sure looks like he’s wearing that with pride, though 😉

  27. Jay in Ames May 19, 2011 at 10:08 am #

Well, he’s being consistent, Jazz. Those that he can’t get rid of with medical rationing (yes Dims, that’s “death panels” you fucking morons) he’ll get rid of with lower rights. It’s easier to off grandma and grandpa when they have no voice for themselves.

Klein’s “New 3/5’s clause”. It has a certain ring to it.

Dems organize pushback against the waiver revelation in Pelosi’s district (HuffPo link). First, let’s establish bona fides:

“I don’t tend to vote Democratic, but I feel bad for Nancy Pelosi,” Aitken told HuffPost. “She’s really being thrown under the bus here. It has nothing to do with her at all. This was just a political power play. The way that they are shaping this — that the minority leader, Nancy Pelosi, [is behind] all these waivers being granted, and how could she do this — it’s all slanted and wrong”.

Good – objective party labels the revelation as political theater. Nancy Pelosi is a victim.

Next, let’s detail the political implications of the Dem perspective:

The admission deals a blow to the implication made Tuesday morning by the Daily Caller: It claimed Democratic lawmakers were effectively exempting businesses in their districts from the more onerous requirements of the presidential health care law.

Notice the inconsistent portrayals. In the first paragraph, a third-party plan administrator says, “The way that they are shaping this — that the minority leader, Nancy Pelosi, [is behind] all these waivers.” In the next paragraph, the “reporter” characterizes the DC’s implications by stating “Democratic lawmakers were effectively exempting businesses in their districts from the more onerous requirements of the presidential health care law.” First, conservatives are putting the onus on Nancy Pelosi, and then they’re putting the onus on all Dems.

For my money, the issue is not the straw man set up by the plan administrator, but the DC’s allegation of Dem favoritism.

    Anyway…

In actuality, Aitken explained, the high percentage of waivers is the byproduct of local law rubbing against the new national legislation.

Let’s use their facts for a second. Okay, if this is true, then it’s a product of laws passed by Democrats conflicting with laws passed by Democrats.

    But wait! There’s more…

On January 7, 2011, Flex Plan first requested waivers for its clients. In a letter to the HHS, the company’s attorney Tina Ann Davis, wrote that . . . .

So, this private company asked WHOM for waivers? HHS? Who runs HHS? What party affiliation are they?

HHS also pushed back immediately against the story.

“The waiters, home health aides, and other hardworking people who have these plans were likely to either lose coverage or see a large increase in price without these temporary waivers,” said Steve Larsen, director of the Center for Consumer Information and Insurance Oversight.

Wait – what? You mean ObamaCare is DETRIMENTAL TO MENIAL JOBHOLDERS? OMG!!!! But . . . but . . . but that’s not what Nancy told us!

There is nothing in the “defense” that provides any sort of defense whatsoever. Nancy Pelosi never would have requested the waivers. She would have exerted influence in getting them approved. Where are those denials? Do you honestly think that HHS, run by Dems, does not know who represents the applicants for waivers? That keeping the former speaker’s constituents happy might have some reciprocal value? That backroom conversations don’t occur and control how business is done?

What a fucking crock of crap.

Oh – and this story does nothing to vitiate the DC’s allegations of cronyism.

  31. Jay in Ames May 19, 2011 at 10:28 am #

Yep, I get that too, PattyAnn. I confront them with facts, and they have no answer for me.

Since we have so much money lying around:

President Barack Obama will unveil an economic aid program for Egypt and Tunisia on Thursday as part of a broad effort to support democratic reform in the Middle East and North Africa, U.S. officials said.

Senior advisers to Obama, previewing parts of his speech, said Wednesday the United States would offer debt relief totaling roughly $1 billion “over a few years” to Egypt through a debt swap mechanism that would invest the money to boost youth employment and support entrepreneurs.

    Jake Tapper explains:

On Thursday, President Obama will try to convince the Arab World that the U.S. wants to shift its engagement in the region from a military one to a political and economic engagement that will help the people of the region realize their dreams.

Obama and company are evil. There is no other honest way to put it. Perhaps not the greatest evil in the world (how ironic, they can not even be number one at that), but most certainly in the top 2 or 3.

Jazz, according to Hubby, Mubarak has offered to give back all of the money he pilfered from the people back to Egypt, on condition that he and his family go free. On top of that, Saudi Arabia has told Egypt that, if they do not accept that offer, every Egyptian in Saudi Arabia will be deported.

Saudi Arabia is scared of the Egyptian meltdown. But my question is, if Mubarak is giving back BILLIONS, why would the US need to shove money down that rathole??

Again – with the “cutting spending in the tax code” in Tim Geithner’s big budget speech.

“The president has proposed that Congress impose on itself a debt cap that would lock in the necessary reductions in deficits over the next several years and, as a failsafe, would automatically cut spending, including in the tax code, if the targets aren’t met. This is the fiscal policy equivalent of taking politics out of monetary policy, as we and most countries did some time ago by making central banks independent with a mandate to keep inflation low.”

Cut spending in the tax code. These muthafockers.

    More FU in Washington doublspeak:

) “The fundamental reality of our fiscal situation is that we will need to generate more revenue, and we will need to reduce the rate of growth in spending on health care and retirement security. Both are necessary. Neither alone can carry the full burden.”

Although the administration has approved more than 1,300 Obamacare waivers and published the recipients’ application information online, it has not made public which companies and other entities have been denied waivers and why they were denied.

Obama’s Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) won’t release that information, nor will they publicly release the identities of those still waiting for a decision. HHS won’t even say how many applications are in the queue.

The search is taking place in the US as well, suggesting serious concern that al-Qaeda may have already infiltrated the country for later operations

Now the fact of the matter is most people on food stamps are not black. So why would David Gregory or all the other white people over there at MSNBC assume that when Gingrich was talking about Obama as being the food stamp president, which he certainly is – we have 47 million people on food stamps. He’s also the unemployment president, and I can go right down the line. Why would they assume when Newt Gingrich raises that that he is talking about black people when most people on food stamps are not black? I think they have a bigot problem. That’s my point.

Comedy Central funnyman Stephen Colbert, like most of his friends and allies on the left, thinks that last year’s Supreme Court ruling in Citizens United v. FEC is, literally, ridiculous. To make his case that the ruling invites “unlimited corporate money” to dominate politics, Mr. Colbert decided to set up a political action committee (PAC) of his own. When controlling for factors such as education, age, experience, intangible benefits (job security) federal premium is:

-Federal employees’ hourly wages are 22% more than workers in the private sector
-Aligning federal workers’ compensation with market rates would save taxpayers $47 billion a year
-When combining wages and total benefits, federal employees earn 30% to 40% more than private-sector workers
-Full-time federal employees can take 13 paid sick days a year along with all 10 days of national holidays
-The average federal civilian employee earns on average $32,115 a year in non-cash compensation compared to a private sector employee who earns three times less, $9,882 annually
-Federal employees receive 22% more in employer payments toward their health care than their private sector counterparts.

    OD bashes the White House?

Lawrence O’Donnell spends a substantial amount of time bashing assorted groups of conservatives, so it’s usually quite the exciting occasion when he turns his guns on the Obama administration. Today he came out, strangely enough, in defense of the conservative-leaning Boston Herald and the free press in general, the former of which were barred from a White House event in Boston for being biased… like, O’Donnell argues, every other newspaper in America.

I missed this report from Jon Ward this morning otherwise I would have included it in the Morning Examiner. It’s the first tangible sign that Newt Gingrich’s presidential campaign is already over:

Another Republican operative said he had spoken with an old friend of Gingrich’s in the South who had been planning a fundraiser for the campaign. There were 18 co-chairs for the event until Gingrich’s appearance on “Meet the Press” Sunday, where he labeled Rep. Paul Ryan’s (R-Wisc.) proposed budget “radical” and “right-wing social engineering.”

“He said like 13 of them dropped off within 24 hours of ‘Meet the Press,’” the GOP source told The Huffington Post.

The full impact on Gingrich’s fundraising will not be clear until mid-July, when second-quarter reports are due to be filed with the Federal Election Commission. A disappointing haul could be a knockout blow.

*Note to self, he ain’t a boy anymore. He signed on the line, and is a man in every sense of the word.

It does sound like he is eating it up, and yes firefighting and “the smoke house” are within the same couple of days. They want to expose you to the effects of a smoke filled environment ASAP. Even 30 some odd years after the fact I still remember that from Boot Camp.

Sounds like he has the proper attitude, and is going to make it with flying colors!!

There may be some hope left with all the next generation willing to take up arms for their country (or the Constitution, for us purists out there).

  151. Jay in Ames May 19, 2011 at 3:11 pm #

He’s pulling back from everything that isn’t a fiscal matter, which is his specialty. But he doesn’t explain himself very well. I don’t think he was forced to explain things in such a large spotlight before, but get used to it, Mitch, it’s the most powerful office in the world.

Declaring a truce is not the right way to explain getting your fiscal house in order before moving to other matters. But you have to do it well, if you are going to be successful (see Newt Gingrich the last couple of days).

      Aggie–peanut butter, chocolate chip, shortbread…

  176. agiledog May 19, 2011 at 4:36 pm #

What will you do for Girl Scout Thin Mints, “little girl”?

  177. Dick May 19, 2011 at 4:38 pm #

    I’d kill for Thin Mints.

  178. agiledog May 19, 2011 at 4:45 pm #

    I’d kill for Thin Mints.

I am amused at the number of attitudes we have in common.

    • PattyAnn May 19, 2011 at 4:53 pm #

Hahaha. I think we’d save a lot of time if we listed things we would NOT do for cookies 🙂

  179. LC Aggie Sith May 19, 2011 at 4:55 pm #

No kidding, PattyAnn. I think I’ll make some snickerdoodles tonight.

  180. GuyS May 19, 2011 at 5:08 pm #

    mmmmmmmmmmm shortbread cookies!!!

I hide bodies for shortbread cookies! (Oh dear, was that my outside voice again?)

  181. LC Aggie Sith May 19, 2011 at 5:13 pm #

    Liu got blocked!! WHOO HOO!!!

  182. Jay in Ames May 19, 2011 at 5:14 pm #

Yeah, Liu got blocked, and lefty blogs and Pollutico (birm) are up in arms, because of the use of the filibuster with a judicial nominee. I guess they slept through the Bush years, and can’t spell Miguel Estrada.

They say this will set a dangerous precedent. Idiots.

  183. GuyS May 19, 2011 at 5:15 pm #

What do ya know! Some good news from the Senate this afternoon!

Democrats needed 60 votes to move the nomination forward to final passage. Senate Republicans on Thursday toppled the nomination, 52-43, of controversial University of California-Berkeley law professor Goodwin Liu, nominee for the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, a first in President Barack Obama’s presidency.

In the end, only one Republican voted for the nominee, Sen. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska. Nebraska’s Ben Nelson was the lone Democrat to oppose Liu. Orrin Hatch [1], R-Utah, a former chairman of the Judiciary Committee, chose to vote “present,” a sign of his long-time opposition to judicial nominee filibusters. Democrats needed 60 votes to move the nomination to final passage.

  184. GuyS May 19, 2011 at 5:16 pm #

Damn!! Guess i have to be a bit quicker on the draw.

  185. LC Aggie Sith May 19, 2011 at 5:17 pm #

    Murkowski?? That BITCH!!!

I guess they slept through the Bush years, and can’t spell Miguel Estrada.

Must be nice to wake up with a blank slate everyday for those fuckers.

  186. GuyS May 19, 2011 at 5:19 pm #

She was the one who got the recount in her favor wasn’t she?

  187. Jay in Ames May 19, 2011 at 5:24 pm #

Yep, she beat Miller in Alaska.

  188. LC Aggie Sith May 19, 2011 at 5:27 pm #

That would be her. She doesn’t get the nom for republican, so she runs as independent, and then has the recount go in her favor because some dickwad judge decided that anything resembling her name as a write in would count.

    • PattyAnn May 19, 2011 at 5:29 pm #

      Murkowski=Rino Republican

  191. Dick May 19, 2011 at 5:41 pm #

Yeah I do. Double chili cheeseburger from Sonic.

  192. LC Aggie Sith May 19, 2011 at 5:46 pm #

    LOL, PattyAnn 😀

That heifer is a grasping, greedy bitch with a wildly inflated sense of self-worth.

But I guess that’s not an official party, is it?

  194. LC Aggie Sith May 19, 2011 at 5:52 pm #

    I think he’s getting both, PattyAnn 🙂

    • PattyAnn May 19, 2011 at 5:58 pm #

I gotz me a double chili cheeseburger w/onions & jalopenos.
    And some tots.

    Kel has her pizza.

  200. xbradtc May 19, 2011 at 6:13 pm #

Aggie, these people are as fucked up as a soup sammich.

Something as simple as showing up to a BBQ for lunch is an exercise in confusion, frustration, and tears.

The plan of who was driving whom changed 4 times in the hour we were sitting there eating.

I drove ten miles east to ride there with my mom and her sister. The BBQ was 4 miles west of me. Why I couldn’t just drive there myself is beyond me.

  201. xbradtc May 19, 2011 at 6:23 pm #

Also, it would appear I kilt a thread today.

  202. Dick May 19, 2011 at 6:25 pm #

    Fuckers.

  215. xbradtc May 19, 2011 at 6:50 pm #

Aggie, it’s the same crap they go through every time two or more of my family get together.

Just got a job offer to teach locals how to rock crawl in Sierra Leone. Might be interesting and shouldn’t last more than a couple of months.

  222. LC Aggie Sith May 19, 2011 at 7:25 pm #

Sierra Leone?? Isn’t there like a civil war going on there??

  223. Dick May 19, 2011 at 7:27 pm #

No, Lmao! That was a while back. Now they’re just diamond mining.

  224. Blackiswhite, Imperial Consigliere May 19, 2011 at 7:28 pm #

    Do they have jeeps there?

  225. Dick May 19, 2011 at 7:32 pm #

    I imagine Rovers, mostly.
The drivers keep getting themselves killed cause nobody has ever taught them to drive, care for a vehicle, or rock crawl.

    That’d be my gig.

  226. LC Aggie Sith May 19, 2011 at 7:32 pm #

    Now they’re just diamond mining.

Cool! Bring me back a rock 😉

  227. LC Aggie Sith May 19, 2011 at 7:34 pm #

This place may go into DTs.

  228. Dick May 19, 2011 at 7:34 pm #

I’d be working for a monster sized mining company.
They fucked up and said I could name my price, which I promise, I will

  229. Dick May 19, 2011 at 7:35 pm #

I gotta get my passport current.

  230. LC Aggie Sith May 19, 2011 at 7:37 pm #

    Should be fun.

Israel’s Netanyahu responds to Obama’s subterfuge.

“Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu was quick on the draw Thursday in voicing clear displeasure with President Barack Obama’s mideast policy speech.

“Israel appreciates President Obama’s commitment to peace,” the response began, curtly. “Israel believes that for peace to endure between Israelis and Palestinians, the viability of a Palestinian state cannot come at the expense of the viability of the one and only Jewish state.”

“That is why Prime Minister Netanyahu expects to hear a reaffirmation from President Obama of U.S. commitments made to Israel in 2004, which were overwhelmingly supported by both Houses of Congress.”

“Among other things,” Netanyahu reminded Obama, “those commitments relate to Israel not having to withdraw to the 1967 lines which are both indefensible and which would leave major Israeli population centers in Judea and Samaria beyond those lines.”

Sounds like someone is a tad upset with our man-god in the white house. Would love to be a fly on the wall while they were having a conversation!

  249. Dick May 19, 2011 at 9:25 pm #
