I have a client trying to get approved as a medical marijuana caregiver in Grand Rapids. While the state law allows for his endeavor, the city wants to regulate his garden as a home business. The city ordinances have been in effect for over a year, and the city hasn’t approved a single application. My client submitted his application last Monday and was pissed on by the City Clerk this past Monday. My telephone call Monday afternoon evidently changed things, because he got a call yesterday from the City Clerk offering to shepherd his paperwork through the process on expedited track. She also backed off on a bunch of demands that weren’t allowed by the state statutes or ordinances. In fact, by the time my confab with her concluded on Monday, she was more or less a quivering, timid pool of vomit. I wasn’t unpleasant (although the call may have been very unpleasant for her); I just demanded that she provide codified authority to justify her antics, and she couldn’t – a fact which I pointed out repeatedly and forcefully.

You know that feeling you get after you’ve just rogered someone really well?

    It’s very, very gratifying. 😀

Question – How do you think you’d pronounce “Leydiana”?

It’s a mom from my son’s soccer team, and she sent me an email, and I’m not sure how to say it.

I’m not sure where she’s originally from, but she’s black and has a heavy accent, but not necessarily “African” – I’d guessing island almost.

I just add that (possibly racist) information to aid with figuring out how to pronounce her name.

Shit, jazz, it’s too bad you couldn’t permanently handle individual’s interest against local government’s bs. They do that shit all the time.

Like with sign ordinances. You can comply with all their rules, and still get it denied.

But not everyone can afford a lawyer for every little thing. That’s one of the biggest problems with our government right now.

Unless you can afford a lawyer – government – from local to state to federal is going to own you.

    It’s not right.

There’s a big market there, and there’s a lot of contentiousness between the municipalities and the caregivers and patients. Great article from Andrew Malcom. There are some really witty one-liners in it. Here’s some substance, though, on why Obama feels the need to speechify:

Whenever the president acknowledges the budget deficit and the $14+ trillion national debt, he says yes, yes, of course, we have to cut waste. He then proceeds to provide a long list of things we need to “invest” more in like education, bridges, green energy and protecting “the most vulnerable” in our society. . . .

[L]ast week there was no-nada-zip talk about his investing. The parade had moved on without its presidential drum major.

Every word of Washington’s political discussion was about cuts in the budget, exactly and only what Republicans wanted to debate. In a town where all-powerful presidents have set the political agenda, the speaker from Ohio, who gets mocked for his emotions and tan, was driving the discussions with well-mannered aplomb.

Hence, again the perceived need for another Obama speech today. He’ll try to recapture control by adjusting the subject: Yes, yes the deficit is bad, though not as bad as you-know-which party makes it out to be. We do need to trim it with some cuts over time. But what we really need is more money to get stuff done.

My favorite line? “Last week when the United States government faced an historic shutdown, Capt. Quixote was off in Philadelphia talking of windmills before speaking at an Al Sharpton gala in New York.”

The unbelievable arrogance of liberals encapsulated perfectly:

Tom Bethell used to argue in the American Spectator that the permanent government in Washington viewed elections as a nuisance, something to be endured like summer thunderstorms that blow over in a few minutes, allowing them to get back to the job of administering the country in the name of “the common good.” Pelosi perfectly expresses in her comment the old Progressive view that “politics” and political argument should be less and less relevant to the main business of government. (This is one aspect of contemporary Progressive thought that has not changed from the old Progressives of a century ago, in contrast to the series I posted here last month.) The object of Progressivism was best expressed in Saint-Simone’s famous phrase that “the government of men should be replaced by the administration of things.” Of course, if you determine that a function of government, like traffic enforcement or tax collecting, should be beyond the reach of partisan political argument, then you have essentially ruled the other party out of order when it objects. Pelosi and confreres believe that once any welfare state measure is in place, it cannot be questioned. The tacit premise of Pelosi’s remark is that today’s Republican Party is an illegitimate party, akin to Nazis or Communists or other subversives who reject the principles of the Constitution. At best, elections to the Progressive mind would increasingly become ceremonial exercises, like Fourth of July picnics. At worst, it is an argument for tyranny.

Go on over and check out the whole thing. There’s a link to a good video, too.

You can’t eat a grapefruit for breakfast. You’re gonna be hungry in no time eating that.

Plus, those antibiotics you are taking for that “cold” you told your wife you “picked up from somewhere” (a.k.a. Motel No Tell) won’t work if’n you eat grapefruit….

Aggie, there’s the handle you turn on the spigot then below that is a locking sleeve nut. Grab it with a regular pair of pliers and see if it’ll tighten up a bit and stop the drip. Get a good grip, and don’t overtighten or strip the outside of that fitting.

Actually, I just had a great idea: Organize a volunteer group of handymen who could fix ordinary household stuff for spouses and families of deployed service members. They would do real complicated stuff, roofing an entire house or rewiring a home. But basic stuff, like fixing stair treads and leaky faucets and stuff? I bet there are a bunch of folks who would do that.

There will be those who vigorously disagree with my approach. I can guarantee that as well. Some will argue, we should not even consider ever, ever raising taxes even if only on the wealthiest Americans….

Let’s talk about the assumptions Dear Leader makes.

Obama is going to rescind the Bush tax cuts, raising the approximate tax rate from 18% to 21%, then assume a nominal quarterly growth rate of 5%?

We can’t get to 3% growth with the “massive” tax decrease of the wonderful and magical Obama’s 2009 Happy Meal Monthly Dinner stimulus, a $862B dollar “investment”, and all the wizards of Haawwvard and their massive Keynesian economic implementation the last two years.

  211. LC Aggie Sith April 13, 2011 at 9:47 pm #

no meetings and even less bullshit.

Awesome! One week of pleasant work 😉

  212. Teresa in Fort Worth, TX April 13, 2011 at 9:47 pm #

*shoots at BiW and Teresa. Miss both and shakes head*

In all fairness, I WAS lying down….
(of course, I’m a fairly low target even when I’m standing up!)

  213. roamingfirehydrant April 13, 2011 at 9:48 pm #

    Well, *I* care. brb

  214. LC Aggie Sith April 13, 2011 at 9:51 pm #

omg…CB just made me spew over at H&B.

Under the HotW, he commented, “Mom?”

    😆

  215. Dick April 13, 2011 at 10:01 pm #

    Later gators.

  216. Dick April 13, 2011 at 10:14 pm #

Roamy, when I specifically asked Rosetta to check my posts and see if they were kosher for the site, he okay’d every one of them.
When Laura made a huge email stink saying I “scared” her, he didn’t say shit, knowing he was the one who okayed/cleared what I posted.

Fuck him. He’s a lying, two faced, chickenshit coward, just like the rest of ’em.
    I’m done with this bullshit.

  217. roamingfirehydrant April 13, 2011 at 10:20 pm #

Look, I can be happy for two people who are having a baby without dredging up the bad blood between you and them.

  218. LC Aggie Sith April 13, 2011 at 10:23 pm #

Ok, BisW is going to totally freak out when he checks out the sidebar.

    AGGIE RULES!!!!!!!!

  219. roamingfirehydrant April 13, 2011 at 10:27 pm #

    Heh, good job, Aggie.

  220. Michael April 13, 2011 at 10:44 pm #

    AGGIE RULES!!!!!!!!

Every Aggie thinks that, and it’s never true.

  221. roamingfirehydrant April 13, 2011 at 10:44 pm #

I like the malevolent intent on the sheep’s face.

  222. Michael April 13, 2011 at 10:48 pm #

    I mean, let’s get real.

If you really wanted to rule, you would go to a serious Big Ten school like Michigan, or anything in the Big Ten other than Ohio State.

If you couldn’t afford nonresident tuition, you would go to UT-Austin, because you can’t afford TCU or Baylor or SMU.

Your last resort would be Texas A&M.

  223. LC Aggie Sith April 13, 2011 at 10:50 pm #

    MICHAEL!!! *smooches*

Every Aggie thinks that, and it’s never true.

Just as every Lutheran thinks Jell-O is da bomb, right?

  224. LC Aggie Sith April 13, 2011 at 10:52 pm #

    HA!!!

Like I would have gone to a place where it snows, Michael…

Or a liberal hell hole, for that matter.

Though I give you a pass on TCU. It was nice when I scouted it 😉

  225. Michael April 13, 2011 at 10:52 pm #

Just as every Lutheran thinks Jell-O is da bomb, right?

    Well, yeah, I suppose so.

    Thanks for the smooch.

Can I have a squishy hug?

  226. LC Aggie Sith April 13, 2011 at 10:53 pm #

*gives Michael a squishy bewb hug*

Is Cathy too enchanted with the pool and ignoring you??

  227. Michael April 13, 2011 at 10:54 pm #

Also, you are correct that Michigan is a liberal hellhole.

I used to think of it as Berkley Midwest.

  228. xbradtc April 13, 2011 at 10:56 pm #

Oh, we’re having a special on squishy hugs?

    **pulls number from the dispenser**

    99?

    **looks at display over counter**

    02?

    Fuuuuuuuu…………

  229. Michael April 13, 2011 at 10:57 pm #

    Berkly = Berkely

  230. Michael April 13, 2011 at 10:59 pm #

Is Cathy too enchanted with the pool and ignoring you??

Yes. Yes she is. I am lonely and neglected.

  231. Michael April 13, 2011 at 11:06 pm #

Looks like my blatant appeal for attention killed this thread.

Oh well. It’s not like I haven’t done this in the past.

  232. LC Aggie Sith April 13, 2011 at 11:14 pm #

    Sorry!

    Had to take a bath!

*gives squishy bewb hug to Brad*

    *gives Michael a beer*

  233. MCPO Airdale April 13, 2011 at 11:15 pm #

Michael – Have you been fitted for new golf clubs yet?

  234. LC Aggie Sith April 13, 2011 at 11:18 pm #

    MCPO!!!

    *gives MCPO squishy bewb hug*

  235. MCPO Airdale April 13, 2011 at 11:20 pm #

    Aggie!

    *presses tightly hip to hip

  236. LC Aggie Sith April 13, 2011 at 11:24 pm #

Are we dancing a Bolero, MCPO?? 😉

  237. MCPO Airdale April 13, 2011 at 11:26 pm #

    Aggie – Dancing TO Bolero!

  238. LC Aggie Sith April 13, 2011 at 11:27 pm #

    BWAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

As I recall that piece of music was….

    Oh, wow!!!

  239. Michael April 13, 2011 at 11:29 pm #

Michael – Have you been fitted for new golf clubs yet?

No. I have played enough golf to realize that golf courses are controlled by demons from Hell. About half of them are assigned to swat your ball into the water, and most of the rest suck your ball into a sand trap or aim it through the window of one of the homes adjacent to the fairway.

  240. MCPO Airdale April 13, 2011 at 11:32 pm #

Michael – I was in 3 bunkers today. I managed to extricate myself from all of them and made par on two out of three of the holes. Patience and perseverance, my friend.

  241. LC Aggie Sith April 13, 2011 at 11:32 pm #

golf courses are controlled by demons from Hell

On this Lutherans and Catholics agree.

  242. Michael April 13, 2011 at 11:34 pm #

You have to be insane to play golf.

I ask you people, in all seriousness, have you ever known an avid golfer who was not insane?

    Yeah. You get my point.

  243. MCPO Airdale April 13, 2011 at 11:39 pm #

Ahhh, the insanity of honing your balance, timing and hand-eye coordination in order to navigate through a beautiful landscape in the lowest number of strokes in the company of fine people.

  244. clintbird April 13, 2011 at 11:49 pm #

Speaking of music, there’s a new poat up, so come on there yourself!

  245. Michael April 13, 2011 at 11:51 pm #

Ahhh, the insanity of honing your balance, timing and hand-eye coordination in order to navigate through a beautiful landscape in the lowest number of strokes in the company of fine people.

Sorta like dropping the soap in a prison shower room.
