1. Is there a 2012 version of Steve McQueen today – two part question: An acting version & a living life to the fullest macho man version?

    Acting version … Leonardo DiCaprio?
Living life version … Patrick Dempsey?

    Your two?

  2. Dick March 1, 2011 at 6:32 pm #

I honestly don’t know of anyone who’s as cool as McQueen is or was, alive or dead.
Paul Newman was the closest until his recent passing.

  3. Dick March 1, 2011 at 6:34 pm #

From the Chief in the last poat:
Dick ā€“ If you lived in Delaware, you would be my hero. . . or not.

Chief, lower Delaware is pretty much like Texas. Hell, the folks there don’t even notice my accent.

  4. MCPO Airdale March 1, 2011 at 6:37 pm #

Acting version ā€¦ No (he believed less dialogue was better.
Living life version ā€¦ Who is married to Ali McGraw?

  5. clintbird March 1, 2011 at 6:39 pm #

Dick, nowhere near as cool as McQueen and Newman, but by today’s Hollyweird standards, not bad:

  6. Dick March 1, 2011 at 6:41 pm #

Well, give that boy some time to get a touch of legend under his belt, and maybe, but nothing’s certain.

  7. clintbird March 1, 2011 at 6:41 pm #

Ali McGraw is in her 70’s now. Hard to fathom.

  8. Dick March 1, 2011 at 6:43 pm #

Hell, I’m having a hard time believing I made it to the half-century mark.

  9. clintbird March 1, 2011 at 6:44 pm #

Ditto here, Dick and I’m at least a decade ahead of you.

  10. Dick March 1, 2011 at 6:48 pm #

Yeah, but I look so much better than anybody else here! Lmao!

  11. clintbird March 1, 2011 at 6:51 pm #

Of course, we GOTTA link this:

I had to laugh at Leo, CB. I’m of the opinion McQueen was not a good actor. So, in that respect, Leo was a great choice.

  13. MCPO Airdale March 1, 2011 at 7:01 pm #

Iā€™m of the opinion McQueen was not a good actor.

    HERETIC!!! BURN THE WITCH!!

  14. clintbird March 1, 2011 at 7:02 pm #

She’s been sickly, MCPO, so we gotta cut her some slack.

  15. PattyAnn March 1, 2011 at 7:06 pm #

I stand by my opinion. Good acting is when the actor convinces you he is the character he is playing. To me, Steve McQueen just played Steve McQueen pretending to be someone else.

  16. TattooedIntellectual March 1, 2011 at 7:08 pm #

Dude was a fox and an icon. Amazing actor? Not so much.

  17. roamingfirehydrant March 1, 2011 at 7:08 pm #

Dammit, I pulled my grandfather’s favorite stunt. I went to the grocery store to get bread, milk, and chicken stock, and came out with $200 of groceries. Honey, the freezer is booby-trapped, careful opening it.

  18. PattyAnn March 1, 2011 at 7:10 pm #

Everything I said notwithstanding, I do enjoy his movies. They’re good entertainment. My favorite is still The Blob.

  19. roamingfirehydrant March 1, 2011 at 7:12 pm #

    Thomas Crown Affair

(though I reserve the right to make fun of “Windmills of Your Mind”)

  20. PattyAnn March 1, 2011 at 7:13 pm #

Reba McEntire inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame and STILL no Ronnie Milsap?

And I still cannot believe all these twits who have Hollywood Stars and STILL no Ken Curtis?

    I better stop now.

  21. PattyAnn March 1, 2011 at 7:14 pm #

Roamy, your trip to the grocery store would be like John’s. Except he would forget the bread.

  22. clintbird March 1, 2011 at 7:15 pm #

Soooooo, Ima guessing you don’t think Stallone can act so good either?

DONT ANSWER THAT UNLESS YOU’VE SEEN COPLAND AND ROCKY BALBOA!

  23. clintbird March 1, 2011 at 7:16 pm #

It is SOP for me to go the grocery store to buy 7 things and come back with 5. And the 2 I forgot? The 2 most important and needed, of course.

  24. TattooedIntellectual March 1, 2011 at 7:17 pm #

Stallone acts…like Stallone. Although, he did pull off a nice job w/ the latest Rocky.

  25. clintbird March 1, 2011 at 7:17 pm #

Dinner and UK vs Vandy is calling. Later taters and taterettes.

  26. PattyAnn March 1, 2011 at 7:18 pm #

*zips lips before CB completely crosses me off FIGF list*

  27. TattooedIntellectual March 1, 2011 at 7:18 pm #

The 2 most important and needed, of course.

I have been known to walk a bag out to the car, go back inside the store and buy milk.

  28. clintbird March 1, 2011 at 7:19 pm #

    Never, PattyAnn.

  29. MCPO Airdale March 1, 2011 at 7:42 pm #

What is this “grocery store” you speak of?

  30. Dick March 1, 2011 at 7:47 pm #

Stallone’s not an actor. McQueen: The Great escape.

    Case closed.

  31. Dick March 1, 2011 at 7:47 pm #

I have been known to walk a bag out to the car, go back inside the store and buy milk.

That’s so nice of you to help old people.

  32. Car in March 1, 2011 at 8:00 pm #

    Good evening everyone.

My dad looks like crap. I’m wondering if I’ve got a trip to the hospital in my near future.

Some times it’s just the dialysis. He didn’t have a fever there or anything.

  33. Teresa in Fort Worth, TX March 1, 2011 at 8:02 pm #

Some say that Daniel Craig reminds them of Steve McQueen – mostly the stocky look, I think.

Heck, they’re both easy on the eyes….

  34. LC Aggie Sith March 1, 2011 at 8:09 pm #

The equivalent of Steve McQueen in acting today? I would pick Jason Statham.

The equivalent of Steve McQueen in life today? I would pick Zombie Steve McQueen.

  35. roamingfirehydrant March 1, 2011 at 8:09 pm #

Any advice for me on heat pumps? What to look for, what brand(s) to avoid?

  36. LC Aggie Sith March 1, 2011 at 8:11 pm #

Daniel Craig looks like he’s starting to cry in every scene.

  39. Dick March 1, 2011 at 8:15 pm #

Any advice for me on heat pumps? What to look for, what brand(s) to avoid?

Avoid every single damn one of them. The originating design and everyone which has followed is pure, money wasting crap.

And that’s the sugar coated version.

  40. Zelda March 1, 2011 at 8:19 pm #

I don’t think anyone will ever be that cool again. He was paid to play himself. I can’t think of any actor now who is bigger than the movie.

  41. LC Aggie Sith March 1, 2011 at 8:21 pm #

Howdy, Zelda! Welcome to the blog šŸ˜€

  42. Dick March 1, 2011 at 8:24 pm #

    Hi Zelda and welcome!

Everybody, Zelda a dear old friend who has gorgeous tits, a beautiful smile, and she makes me look like a communist.
Aggie, Zelda lives in your neck of the woods.

  43. scottw March 1, 2011 at 8:25 pm #

“Avoid every single damn one of them. The originating design and everyone which has followed is pure, money wasting crap.”

That was my opinion but I was hoping I was wrong. Most of the places up here where I have seen heat pumps (condos), there isn’t really an alternative.

  44. LC Aggie Sith March 1, 2011 at 8:26 pm #

    Evenin’ Scott!!

Nice to meet you, Zelda šŸ™‚

  45. Dick March 1, 2011 at 8:26 pm #

Scott, do you guys run a heatpump now? If so, tell us what ya think.

  46. roamingfirehydrant March 1, 2011 at 8:30 pm #

I have a gas furnace for the serious heat, but I use the heat pump for days above 40, and I switch it to AC for the summer. I need some kind of AC.

  47. PattyAnn March 1, 2011 at 8:31 pm #

“He was paid to play himself.” THAT’S what I was saying.

Welcome to the hoorhouse, Zelda. Did you bring a piano?

    Hi, Scott!

  48. scottw March 1, 2011 at 8:32 pm #

Nope, don’t have one. I think my mom’s condo uses them. I sold real estate for 2-3 years here and only encountered them at condo complexes. I don’t know much about them but I have never heard anyone up here say anything good about them.

  49. scottw March 1, 2011 at 8:32 pm #

    PA!

  50. Dick March 1, 2011 at 8:33 pm #

Roamy, go with a standard indoor/outdoor a/c unit that can match up with your heater’s blower below a plenum box.

    Heatpumps are the devil.

  51. Teresa in Fort Worth, TX March 1, 2011 at 8:36 pm #

Welcome to the hoorhouse, Zelda. Did you bring a piano?

If she has gorgeous tits, the fellas are gonna want to see her in one of these outfits ==============>

  52. Jay in Ames March 1, 2011 at 8:37 pm #

What, no Bruce Willis love? He could be McQueen.

  53. LC Aggie Sith March 1, 2011 at 8:38 pm #

    PattyAnn, you asked:

  54. scottw March 1, 2011 at 8:39 pm #

We have a 3 year old oil burning furnace that is very efficient. Keeping our house heated to 68 degrees has cost us about $600 a month this winter. Heat sucks period.

  55. LC Aggie Sith March 1, 2011 at 8:40 pm #

I lurve me some Bruce Willis, J’Ames. I omitted him because he’s in a class by himself šŸ˜€

  56. MCPO Airdale March 1, 2011 at 8:41 pm #

I wouldn’t own a heatpump if I lived north of Savannah, GA.

  57. Dick March 1, 2011 at 8:42 pm #

    Holy shit!
Chief, do you know either of these two?

    http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2011/03/01/navy-removes-commanders-uss-stout/

  58. Dick March 1, 2011 at 8:43 pm #

    Aggie, that’s a smokin’ pic.

  59. Jay in Ames March 1, 2011 at 8:43 pm #

$600 a month? Dayum, I thought our $300 was bad!

  60. LC Aggie Sith March 1, 2011 at 8:45 pm #

Holy fucking hell, Dick. The Navy doesn’t need this shit.

  61. Dick March 1, 2011 at 8:47 pm #

Hell no, Aggie. Especially with the Stinkanator going in in 30 days.

  62. scottw March 1, 2011 at 8:47 pm #

Roamy I have a good friend in that business. When you figure out what you need let me know. If I can help I will.

  63. LC Aggie Sith March 1, 2011 at 8:47 pm #

PattyAnn wanted a pianer, Dick. I deliver.

    Scott, $600???

    Move, dude!!

  64. MCPO Airdale March 1, 2011 at 8:48 pm #

Dick – Don’t know them. The Navy has taken the correct action. Fraternization cannot be tolerated. If the Captain and the Command Master Chief knew about it and did nothing, they forfeit their careers.

  65. Dick March 1, 2011 at 8:49 pm #

Scott, how much would it cost to get your system switched over to natural or LP gas?
I know you’ve checked into it.

  66. Dick March 1, 2011 at 8:51 pm #

Reading into the article, it looks like a lot of sailor’s careers are about to be flushed down the toilet.

  67. scottw March 1, 2011 at 8:52 pm #

Jay our house was built in 1948. I don’t know what home heating fuel cost back then but insulation wasn’t a big concern. It’s a small house, it’s just a breezy one. Home heating fuel should not be $3.69 a gallon.

  68. scottw March 1, 2011 at 8:53 pm #

    Our street doesn’t have gas.

  69. MCPO Airdale March 1, 2011 at 8:53 pm #

Dick – Somebody fostered a command climate where drinking and screwing around were considered acceptable behavior. It’s not.

  70. Jay in Ames March 1, 2011 at 8:55 pm #

Ah yes, I forgot that heating oil is a lot more expensive than gas. I’m glad we have gas. Plus I do not have fond memories of smelling heating oil every time the furnace started.

  71. Dick March 1, 2011 at 8:56 pm #

Yep, and you have to believe the commander and MCPO at the very least had some knowledge of what was going on.

Stories like that make me grateful I was in the infantry.

  72. MCPO Airdale March 1, 2011 at 9:05 pm #

Dick – If they didn’t know, they are either incredibly bad at their jobs or completely amoral. Either way. . .

  73. Dick March 1, 2011 at 9:09 pm #

Yep, I was just thinking the very same thing.
Ya know, it shouldn’t be a very tough job to command or be a Master chief of a destroyer.
All ya have to do is make certain everybody plays the game properly; kick ass when it’s needed, pats on the back when warranted, and a shoulder to cry on.

  74. Blackiswhite, Imperial Consigliere March 1, 2011 at 9:16 pm #

The equivalent of Steve McQueen in acting today? Timothy Olyphant

    In life? Nada.

And in other news, trials are like vampires, only without the seduction. They suck the damn life outta ya.

  75. roamingfirehydrant March 1, 2011 at 9:18 pm #

Holy cow, I’m paying about $200 a month, worst case, for running the AC in July or the gas furnace in January. Sheeeit.

  76. PattyAnn March 1, 2011 at 9:19 pm #

Aggie, if there was any way, I would try to incorporate that into our background. That was perfect. BiW’s gonna swoon.

Scott, $600/month WOW. Our A/C (electric) bills tend to be high because of our temperatures, but our natural gas heat is never even $100 in the coldest of months. That sucks.

Bruce Willis? Eh. He’s another one who plays Bruce Willis to me. But, again, I love his movies.

  77. Blackiswhite, Imperial Consigliere March 1, 2011 at 9:19 pm #

I don’t have AC, and my gas has only gone up to about $100.00 on the coldest months here.

  78. PattyAnn March 1, 2011 at 9:21 pm #

BiW, check out Aggie at 8:38.

  79. Dick March 1, 2011 at 9:21 pm #

Roamy, if you’re putting out only a couple of hundred a month during the summer, you’re doing fine. Keep what ya got.

  80. Dick March 1, 2011 at 9:22 pm #

Aggie, if there was any way, I would try to incorporate that into our background.

    Yeah, I was gonna ask.

  81. LC Aggie Sith March 1, 2011 at 9:23 pm #

I had to post that one, PattyAnn. She’s wearing pearls šŸ˜‰

  82. Blackiswhite, Imperial Consigliere March 1, 2011 at 9:23 pm #

BiW, check out Aggie at 8:38.

I did. I was thinking that if I believed in reincarnation, then I’d be shooting for piano bench upholstery in the next life.

  83. roamingfirehydrant March 1, 2011 at 9:24 pm #

Thank you, Scott, I appreciate that.

  84. roamingfirehydrant March 1, 2011 at 9:28 pm #

Dick, I have to do something in the next couple of weeks. The coils have corroded to where all the Freon has leaked out. I paid $$$ to get it recharged in October, knowing that it wasn’t going to hold until spring, and it hasn’t. I can pay to have the coils replaced, if they can find parts for a 15-year-old system, or spend a little more and get a new system. Either way, I’m screwed.

  85. Blackiswhite, Imperial Consigliere March 1, 2011 at 9:29 pm #

    Either way, Iā€™m screwed.

And not in the “Whew! I need a cigarette!” way, either.

    Sorry to hear it.

  86. Dick March 1, 2011 at 9:31 pm #

Ya might see if you can find a dealer with a new system that runs the old freon.
Craigslist dallas has a bunch of them, but I have no idea about your neck of the woods.

Last year when we replaced our twenty year old system, gas heat and central a/c (Train) cost us about $3500 if I remember correctly.

  87. Blackiswhite, Imperial Consigliere March 1, 2011 at 9:44 pm #

Oh sure, I show up and everyone runs away. I see how you all are.

  88. Dick March 1, 2011 at 9:51 pm #

I’m moseying through real estate. Keep your shirt on.

Okay, now I’m calling it a night.

  89. LC Aggie Sith March 1, 2011 at 10:00 pm #

Hi, BisW. Sorry, I was picking up son from Scouts.

  90. LC Aggie Sith March 1, 2011 at 10:01 pm #

Oh, and how did the trial go??

  91. LC Aggie Sith March 1, 2011 at 10:04 pm #
