Nope. You’re criticizing the wrong party for that crowd.

If you substitute “Republicans” for “Democrats”, you will be the toast of that miserable town.

Kelly’s killing people on Xbox in Red Dead Redemption right now. She must be feeling better.

  10. Dick February 26, 2011 at 5:14 pm #

    Time for a toddy.

  11. Teresa in Fort Worth, TX February 26, 2011 at 5:14 pm #

Kelly must have been at death’s door if’n she wasn’t up to killin’ people online! I’m glad she’s feeling better.

Mr. TiFW and I went to go see “Unknown” last night, and in the elevator in the parking lot after the movie, he was horsing around like an action movie hero.

Made the other 2 couples in the elevator smile – can’t take that man anywhere…. 😉

  12. LC Aggie Sith February 26, 2011 at 5:18 pm #

I have to go grocery shopping, but I’ll join you in a toddy when I get back, Dick.

It will be a tight fit, but I’ll be nekkid, so it should be ok 😉

Teresa, a man like that is adorable 😀

  13. Teresa in Fort Worth, TX February 26, 2011 at 5:28 pm #

Yeah, I know Aggie – I just smile and shake my head. He makes me laugh….

I still remember the time very early in our relationship when we were on an elevator at the place where we both co-oped. The “bell” rang, and he started shadow boxing a la “Rocky”.

I just about fell on the floor laughing –

Does that concern the people who know about it, or is it just an observation that they have made?

Like a loss of biodiversity or a gain with a “new” species?

I no what you mean. 😉

  58. LC Aggie Sith February 26, 2011 at 9:02 pm #

Theoretically, if bison populations can be found w/ fairly pure genetics, then we have gained a species and we’re +1. We’ll have Bison bison the animal the Plains Indians relied up, and Bos bison the current cattle crossbreeds that we have today. If genetically pure populations cannot be found, then we’ve lost a species to extinction, and gained a species through hybridization, net neutral. As far as I know at the moment, this applies to USA populations, I don’t know how it applies to Canadian populations. It’s something I need to do more research on, it just happened to come up in discussion at a workshop today. The current Bos bison only shares 6% of the original Bison bison DNA.

  67. TattooedIntellectual February 26, 2011 at 9:22 pm #

My guess is that the Bos bison is a new designation from an article in ’10 (which I’m hoping to find) and that like many other genetic based species descriptions it will be hotly debated for quite a few years before they settle. The article I linked makes some really good points about issues w/ mtDNA.

  68. Blackiswhite, Imperial Consigliere February 26, 2011 at 9:29 pm #

For those of us who haven’t had biology since college, what is mtDNA, and why is it different from DNA?

  69. Blackiswhite, Imperial Consigliere February 26, 2011 at 9:32 pm #

    Man, these tacos are good.

  70. Dick February 26, 2011 at 9:32 pm #

  71. Dick February 26, 2011 at 9:33 pm #

Dick, grassfed bison and beefalo taste pretty damned good.

Last time I had Buffalo steak, I needed to bring a spare jaw. That stuff has good flavor but is as chewy and tough as clams.

  72. TattooedIntellectual February 26, 2011 at 9:34 pm #

mtDNA is mitochondrial DNA, it’s passed down maternally–>you can trace a maternal line. It’s housed in the mitochondria which is the powerhouse for the cell and is separate from nuclear DNA. There are some drawbacks to mtDNA depending on what you’re looking at–it tells you jack shit about paternal involvement. B/c it has a relatively high mutation rate–>rate of change it’s useful in creating phylogenies or relationship trees between closely related species.

  93. Teresa in Fort Worth, TX February 26, 2011 at 10:35 pm #

Oh, and “Gnomeo and Juliet” was very good – William Shakespeare meets Elton John. We saw it in 3-D, and Rebecca kept reaching out to try and touch everything. She was giggling the whole time.

Mr. TiFW and I had fun catching all of the “Shakespearean” references – the “Rosencrantz and Gildenstern” Moving Company truck; the “Out! Out!” line followed immediately by another character saying, “Damn Spot!”; the “Verona Lane” where they lived; the “Lawrence” place where they met; etc. Very cleverly done!

And Rebecca especially liked it when we got her the “Kid’s Pack” with popcorn and a special “Rango” cup. She was so excited to show it off to Sarah when she came home – she ran into the front room to tell her about it, but she got the sounds mixed up:

    “Sarah, Sarah! Look – Negro!”

Took Sarah about 5 minutes to quit laughing…..

Teresa, I bet the whole evening was an 11 on the adorableness scale

Yeah, she’s pretty cute – how many 9-year-old girls do you know who still jump up and down with excitement because they’re going to get “Popcorn movie!” (well, except for when the movie is the Justin Bieber gagfest)?

We couldn’t get to the theater fast enough – she ran from the sidewalk to the door of the theater (got distracted by the fountains, though), then tore through the ticket-taker’s booth to see the video games. Had to go to the concession stand to get the popcorn, of course.

Then it was off to theater number 2 to find a seat, put on the 3-D glasses, and sit in rapt attention for the next 2 hours. When it was all over, she was clapping and laughing and saying, “They did it! They did it! Mommy, Daddy, they did it!”.

It’s lots of fun to go with her to the movies….

I want to see it, since it is a closer rendition of the book. But I have issues with matt Damon, and the fact that they changed Psalm 23 ticks me off no end.

    G’night, Dick 🙂

Damon was good in the role. Didn’t pay much attention to however they may have changed Psalm 23.

All I can tell you is it’s one of the best two or three movies I’ve seen in the last year or so.

I’ll eventually break, CB. You know it.

I liked Damon in the Ocean’s trilogy, but what made it for me was his parent’s involvement in the scams.

    I laughed my ass off.

    Never saw those movies.

    Sigh…

So BiW, what is the story about your diabetes again? I know you’ve told it, but I’m over 50, and I’ve slept since then.

Are you on medication right now, or are you attempting to control it through diet? Are you getting plenty of fat and keeping your carbs low (unlike the “new” recommended ADA diet, which makes things worse instead of better)?

How often do you test? Before and after meals? (I’ve never had this, so I don’t know the protocol).

Yeah, I’ve heard that low blood sugar can be just as dangerous – if not more so – than slightly high blood sugar. So BE CAREFUL!!!!

We want you around for a long time, buddy –

    For Aggs

Ok, that was a riot 😀

I was officially diagnosed after I got back from Texas last fall. I was pre-diabetic before then, and the Doc put me on a glucophage a year and a half ago. It was not longer working on my own, and my sugar had been creeping out of control.

He gave me a new script since then that costs as much as my left and right testicle per 26 day script, but it seems to be working. I also have the virtue of never being constipated with it, IYKWIMAITTYD, but it has been bringing my sugar under control as long as my stress level stays somewhere between “Shoot me now” and “OH MY GOD!!!!”. And as long as it is there lately, when I have checked, my sugar has been downright low before dinner, and lower in the morning than its been in a long time.

    Ok, that was a riot

I know that they are all liberal douchebags, but I love those movies. I laugh every time.

I gotta quit sitting up so late every night. I get hungry.

  122. LC Aggie Sith February 27, 2011 at 12:22 am #

That’s my issue with those films, BisW. I don’t want to give them affirmation by supplying revenue.

    It’s a conundrum.

Aggs, I love the rapid fire dialogue and the ‘second language’ of them. I had to watch them all more than once before I really caught everything.

  124. LC Aggie Sith February 27, 2011 at 12:28 am #

Ok, time for me to get to bed. Y’all have a goodnight 🙂

  125. Blackiswhite, Imperial Consigliere February 27, 2011 at 12:29 am #

Its time to watch a movie, then bed.

  126. PattyAnn February 27, 2011 at 12:34 am #

Wow. What’s happening to me. A six hour nap…and I could go back to sleep soon with no problem.

  127. clintbird February 27, 2011 at 12:38 am #

Sounds like you’re getting better, PattyAnn. I gotta sleep now. Goodnight all.

    Morning. Everybody out of BED!!!

    Slopes open at 9.

BiW, glad to hear that the meds are working for you – just be sure your sugar levels don’t get TOO low.

Do you use artificial sweeteners, by any chance? Ran across a study last year that seems to indicate they could make blood sugar numbers rise. Mr. TiFW quit drinking Diet Cokes (and substituted Dr Pepper, ‘cuz the study couldn’t find any correlation between sugar and blood sugar numbers) and his blood sugar number dropped 13 points in less than 3 months.

RESULTS: At least daily consumption of diet soda was associated with a 36% greater relative risk of incident metabolic syndrome and a 67% greater relative risk of incident type 2 diabetes compared with nonconsumption (HR 1.36 [95% CI 1.11-1.66] for metabolic syndrome and 1.67 [1.27-2.20] for type 2 diabetes).
    http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19151203

BTW, this was done using data from a LARGE multi-center study for atherosclerosis (MESA). The researchers can’t figure out WHY sugar doesn’t cause diabetes – they’re gonna go try and find more data that fits their hypothesis….

    From that same abstract:

…Although our primary analyses focused on diet soda intake, we also estimated corresponding risks for metabolic syndrome and type 2 diabetes according to consumption of sugar-sweetened soda. Data showed no significant associations between sugar-sweetened soda consumption and risk of either metabolic syndrome or type 2 diabetes (data not shown)….

    Kilt it?
