    Hahahahaha!!!

House lawmakers voted overwhelmingly last night to strip police officers, teachers, and other municipal employees of most of their rights to bargain over health care, saying the change would save millions of dollars for financially strapped cities and towns.
The 111-to-42 vote followed tougher measures to broadly eliminate collective bargaining rights for public employees in Ohio, Wisconsin, and other states. But unlike those efforts, the push in Massachusetts was led by Democrats who have traditionally stood with labor to oppose any reduction in workers’ rights.

RTWT. Man, I left the best funny at the link. There’s one quote there that made me change my Depends, I was laughing so hard.

This gal is HOT – and she’s good looking, too!

Many aspects of President Obama’s policies and approach give me indigestion. His reckless spending, economically destructive and unconstitutional Obamacare, deceit with respect to Paul Ryan’s “Path to Prosperity,” perpetual arrogance, and love affair with an EPA that repeatedly jeopardizes our ability to become energy independent, are just a few examples.

However, there’s one facet of the Obama ideology that turns my stomach with particular force — that of class warfare. Not only is it profoundly un-American, but it pins one citizen against another in order to promote the idea that the federal government should step in and equalize for the common good. The candidate who once advocated spreading the wealth around is determined to do just that.

Allen West says lefty women neuter men, and this woman agrees with him.

Liberal women . . . insist they’re not against the traditional family but merely want women to have choices. Hogwash. Not only do feminists subtly and overtly undermine traditional gender roles, they take credit for something they didn’t do. American women’s choices (a.k.a. “progress”) were expanded not from the bra-burning demonstrations that sought to reform society but from a natural evolution that was aided by technology – technology that was invented by men, I might add. American women should be thanking men, not feminists, for the lives they have today.

Allen West’s argument that liberal women have neutered men was courageous and spot on. It just wasn’t self-explanatory.

I haven’t, GML. I don’t read many books anymore. Law school sucked all the fun out of reading for me. I haven’t been able to read a book for leisure in more than ten years. I miss it – I was the kid who would rather read on the sofa on a summer day rather than be outside playing. Reading IS fundamental. Fucking lawyers spoil everything, goddammit.

  19. Jazz April 27, 2011 at 12:55 pm #

BiW, I have to file a lawsuit for a client against the city in which he resides because it will not issue a home business license to the corporation he formed to provide medical cannibis, an occupation in which he’s licensed to engage by the State of Michigan. The denial letter from the city attorney justifies the denial based on an obtuse and deliberately uninformed interpretation of the city ordinances and the state statutes. There. Is. No. Legal. Basis. For. Her. Denial. Other. Than. Deliberately. Misconstrued. Ordinances.

I’m filing the fucking case with a motion for summary disposition so that she has to defend her fucking retarded position in front of a judge when she answers the complaint. I’m asking for a determination that the defense is frivolous and without merit. If he grants it, I’m going to grieve her ass hard – THIS is the kind of shit that gives us a bad name: Pretextual defenses and abuse of process. I’m fucking pissed that I’ve got to be a fucking policeman, but somebody’s got to do it. I suspect – but don’t know – she’s trying to push this guy around because she’s got some personal animus toward his licensed occupation.

CR 11 is a wicked sword to draw, Jazz, but it sounds like it is justified in this case.

That’s the one that I always view as “But for the grace of God there go I”.

I hate to even utter it, and I get wicked pissed when others raise it like opposing counsel did in my last trial, because I didn’t do discovery with a foreign company that wasn’t a part to the case. What made it especially galling is that this guy did NO DISCOVERY AT ALL, despite the fact that we had some rather substantial counterclaims, and had sheepishly admitted the same to the judge the prior day when he was objecting to us submitting a piece of physical evidence.

    Afternoon, all!

Finally decided that the phone line internet thingy wasn’t doing it for us (100+ year-old house, phone lines not much younger it seems like some days), so tomorrow we get cable internet/phone service. Yeah, we’re behind the times – I’ve been busy raising kids and stuff….

Also went and got my tooth looked at – the one that was bothering me a few weeks ago – as it hasn’t really gotten better. Who knew that an “endodontist” was a root canal person? That was TiFW’s vocabulary word for the day…..

Go in at 8:00 a.m. tomorrow to get that bad boy taken care of (there was a cancellation). At this point, the doc doesn’t know if we are looking at a root canal or an extraction – the X-Ray has him somewhat puzzled. I told him I never do anything the conventional way!

  39. Jazz April 27, 2011 at 3:27 pm #

We’ve had more than an inch in the past four hours, GML. With all the rain we’ve had in the past 24 hours, I have no doubt we’ve exceeded three inches by a long shot.

  40. GMLand April 27, 2011 at 3:32 pm #

It continues to pour down here, with another line moving in later this afternoon… sheesh, enough already.

I feel for you Tifw, I’m looking down the needle of some major dental work coming up as well.

IMHO, entirely too much bad attorney behavior escapes punishment because other attorneys are too reluctant to bring an ethical complaint. Hell, I think they should be filed MORE often. Yes, ethical complaints are a hassle to defend, but the complaints would keep some of these lazy, unethical fuckers on their toes.

I haven’t threatened the other attorney. I don’t threaten. I’m going to file the motion, and when she files her response, if it’s not more substantial than the letter of denial I sent her, I’ll send her a letter asking her to change her position, and I’ll cite the relevant rules from the Rules of Professional Conduct that I believe her position violates. And I’ll let her know that I’m only considering the move reluctantly – I don’t enjoy grieving other attorneys (I had to do it one other time to an attorney who committed fraud on the court), but I have no qualms doing it, either. She will be well aware of my position before I make any ethical complaint.

  42. Teresa in Fort Worth, TX April 27, 2011 at 3:35 pm #

And when I said that part about the old phone lines, I wasn’t kidding – when we redid the front porch, one of the things we found in the rafters (along with a board signed on April 10, 1907 by one of the workers) was an old doohickey. There was a patent number on it, so I sent to the patent office to get a copy of the original patent filing. Well, it was something for the old Bell telephones!

I’ve got both of them around here somewhere – “one of these days”, I plan on getting them framed so they can “stay” with the house for the next owner….

  43. Teresa in Fort Worth, TX April 27, 2011 at 3:40 pm #

GML, I figure the root canal can’t be more bothersome than the tooth itself has been the past couple of weeks. I’ve had a noticeable bump on my cheek since this started; I originally thought that it was a sinus infection, but I guess we’ll know more tomorrow!

I’m on my 3rd round of antibiotics, and they’re not doing the job (I can’t take the one he’d like to give me, because of my MG), so it’s time to send in the big guns.

  44. Jazz April 27, 2011 at 3:41 pm #

My grandfather worked for Bell Telephone. I have two functioning operator telephones from the old Bell operator call centers, with the headsets and the mouth horns and all.

This one’s been out for a few hours, but I never thought I’d even see this much action.

UW Health doctors who wrote sick notes for protesters at the Capitol in February face penalties up to a loss of pay and leadership positions, the UW School of Medicine and Public Health said Tuesday.
The medical school reviewed 22 UW Health doctors said to have been involved in writing medical excuses for protesters attending rallies over Gov. Scott Walker’s budget proposals, according to a medical school statement.
“Several” of the doctors were found not to have participated, and among those who were involved “the nature and extent of involvement varied widely,” the statement said.
“Personnel action will be based on the specific nature of the offense and the level of the physician’s involvement,” the statement said. “The consequences range from written reprimand to loss of pay and leadership position.”

Hugh Hewett comments on the lizard fiasco I mentioned earlier:

This lizard isn’t protected under the Endangered Species Act (“ESA”) —yet. But if the industry, lessees and land owners, and affiliated businesses and communities do not rally to present the necessary science and defend against the typically hyperbolic claims of the species’ imminent demise due to “habitat fragmentation” presented by anti-growth, anti-energy environmental extremists, the lizard will soon add another burden to the business of energy production, just as scores of species listings in other states have diminished economic growth across a number of industries.

The abuse of the ESA is more than two decades old, but is now something of a science on the left, and the sporadic attempts to amend the ESA over the years have all come to naught. I have battled such listing for 20 years and it is crucial not just for the soon-to-be-impacted property-owners and industry interests to organize, but also for the House Natural Resource Committee to exercise oversight on this proposed listing and all new listings and to make sure that the administrative record is full of arguments against the listing and especially against the entire theory of “habitat loss” as a rationale for a listing.

Broward Circuit Court Judge Ilona Holmes, her sister and her sister’s family says they were ordered at gun point by several Broward Sheriffs Deputies on Easter Sunday to come out of her sister’s home with their hands up.

It was no evening of peace for the Deerfield Beach family, who’d just finished dinner with friends and family, and sent extra Easter dinner to a needy family connected with their church. Then, at 8:20 p.m., police got a call about a possible burglary next door. But a bad address caused police to go to the wrong home.

Got my bloodwork numbers back today, and my doctor is probably ready to have kittens.

Me? I have time to play on the Internet, and I keep coming up with new medical articles to send to her that will hopefully keep her blood pressure down.

For instance, it now appears that the only REALLY important number to figure out a person’s risk of Coronary Artery Disease is the Triglyceride/HDL Ratio. (It’s actually the LOG of that value, but here’s a handy-dandy little calculator: http://www.biomed.cas.cz/fgu/aip/calculator.php)

And the Total Cholesterol/HDL ratio is another good indicator – the numbers by themselves mean NOTHING!!!!

    So here’s my “scores”:
    Cholesterol: 243
    HDL: 65
    LDL: 140
    Trigl: 190

    Pretty shitty, huh?

    Nay, not so!

    TC/HDL: 3.74 (<5 is low-risk)
    LDL/HDL: 2.15 (<3 is low-risk)
    LOG(TrG/HDL): 0.106 (<0.11 is low-risk)

    FAT GIRL WINS!!!!!!!

Last I heard schools were delayed for two hours, and roads were blocked with downed trees, etc. Also, I head a twister was heading down Huntsville-way.

    I’ve been praying here.

In other news, I made the Gorton’s Fisherman my bitch tonight, and cooked four of his fillets, which were laid out two by two on french bread rolls with mayo and Crosse and Blackwell cocktail sauce.

    There were no survivors.

BisW, you are the only man I know that can make Gorton’s sound like gourmet food.
